Dear Lybrate user, I understand that you have been doing quite a bit of research on the medications, but I just want to make one correction. You are right about pioglitazone, but not the glimepiride whose main function is to stimulate insulin production from the pancreas and not to reduce insulin resistance. This is done by mostly metformin and pioglitazone. Hence you are taking combination of 2 tablets with similar function. If your sugars are controlled and you are not getting any side-effects...more

Hi
Your HbA1C is good but if there is any recurrent episodes of low blood sugars and tiredness, I would recommend you to reduce the medicine dose and mainatin a HbA1C of 6.5% - 7.0%. Your change of medicine and dose can be decided after a chat regarding your diet and exercise routine, daily monitoring of blood sugars as prescriptions cannot be given here.

So, you're currently taking basal bolus with a dpp4-i. For some reason you're the doctor has not put you on metformin or other medications. Your weight is bound to go up since you're on insulin. I'd suggest you to get your blood workup done and visit a nearby diabetologist/endocrinologist to help you better.

Mr metformin can be taken up to 2500 mg per day. But 100 mg is also a high dose only. If it is not causing any gastro intestinal side effects then no problem. It is really good that you have started on insulin because looking at amount of drugs that you are taking, it is necessary for you to shift to insulin. By doing self monitoring of blood sugar daily you can increase the insulin dosage every alternate day till you reach target fasting level. It is good to reduce or take away pioglitazone.
