Dear lybrate-user,
I don’t think you are taking your anti epileptic drug in proper dose. That is the reason your seizures are partially controlled.
If your anti-epileptic is phenytoin (Eptoin), it’s actual maintenance dose is 3-5 mg /kg body weight /day.
My suggestion is: you should take Eptoin 100 mg thrice daily and continue. However take advise of your Neurologist, who will be your final judge.
Also avoid precipitating factors of seizures.
Wish you a very good health!

Mr Utsav, Thanks for the query.
If you have been diagnosed to have Neurocysticercosis, then it is better to take the necessary medication as advised by the doctor. Because it is the only way to get rid of the infection. Thanks.

You should not use phenytoin if you also take delavirdine (Rescriptor), or if you are allergic to phenytoin, ethotoin (Peganone), fosphenytoin (Cerebyx), or mephenytoin (Mesantoin). If you are pregnant, DO NOT START TAKING this medicine unless your doctor tells you to. Phenytoin may cause harm to an unborn baby, but having a seizure during pregnancy could harm both the mother and the baby. If you become pregnant while taking phenytoin, DO NOT STOP TAKING the medicine without your doctor's advice...more

It's so nice dear that you are t
aking care of your father. If your father did not have epilepsy for last 2 years consecutively and it CT brain, sodium, potassium, thyroid, calcium level is normal than your physician may start lowering the dose under his supervision. You can give folic acid supplementation. Thanks.
