Dear lybrate-user,
You should send the details of his symptoms and diagnosis for which he was prescribed olimelt.
Of course olimelt is sedating. You can reduce and even stop olimelt, provided it is not given for any psychotic symptoms.

Dear Dhaval,
Probably your son is not showing enough improvement with one of the drugs. Increasing olimelt alone may make him put on weight though he may improve. So instead add Arip that may improve him more but not increase his weight. You doctor assessed your son totally how much sleep he requires, how much weight he can put on, etc. Just follow your doctor's instruction instead of only one of the drugs prescribed.

Dear abc, Don’t try to guess the illness from the tablets. The same tablets work on many different illnesses. If you want to help your relatives, please consult the doctor who will educate you on the illness and how you can help in the treatment

You have a serious mental disorder and need to continue both medication and therapy for a long time. But because you are young there is a possibility that if you cooperate well and get the right kind of therapy, you could recover well. Because it is a psychotic condition you need to be made to relate to reality often by confronting the distortion of your environment. You may be given to delusions, hallucinations, and disordered thinking and speech. You may be emotionally unresponsive, suffering ...more

Dear Priya,
Good mood stabiliser like lamitec will help you in the long run. Please don't stop them. Olimelt may be lowered or stopped according to your need vs side effects.

Schizophrenia can be a very crippling disease, if treatment is tampered with by amateurs or by lay people. You must strictly follow doctor?s instructions. To me your son is seemingly doing well, and holding on to a job with major responsibility. If you push the expectation on him at this juncture, you may reverse all the benefits, inadvertently. Instead of worrying about changing medication, I recommend that you put him on some counseling along with the medication. This will help him develop cop...more
