Lybrate-user,
The medications olanzapine and Clonazepam are prescribed in low doses if there is a renal impairment under the supervision of a psychiatrist and only when the benefits of taking the medications outweigh the risks. If you have anxiety and depression issues you could review how bad the symptoms are and start cognitive behaviour therapy which does not involve medications. If that helps you and your symptoms reduce then medications can be reduced and stopped by the psychiatrist.

I have taken ayurveda medicines and fish oils to increase serotonin, but now psychiatrist (from nimhans) has diagnosed me with bipolar depression, so he prescribed me oleanz plus 20 mg/5 mg tablet for 30 days (one tablet daily at night after food). He also given me a general advice on regular exercise which helps increase serotonin and dopamine. So, my question is…the mechanism of the prescribed drug: oleanz plus tablet is a combination of two medicines: fluoxetine and olanzapine. They work by increasing the activity of certain chemicals called serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the brain. These chemicals help relieve the symptoms of bipolar depression. But can I replace the prescribed drug with natural treatments like exercise, meditation/breathing exercises, gratitude, new hobbies like reading good books which naturally increase serotonin and dopamine in the brain? I want to replace it because, according to the psychiatrist, the prescribed drug (oleanz plus 20 mg/5 mg) will work 50% for me and with that if I do regular exercise, it will work more than 50% (but not 100%) I did’t start the medication (the prescribed one) yet… so can I replace it with exercise/fitness/meditation although the mechanism is similar i.e. To increase serotonin? And in past I used to take fish oils/ ayurveda medicines and I stopped it now.

Hi. lybrate-user
there are several studies now on nutrional suppliments on brain and how neuro transmitters are being produced or balanced.
Particularly omega3, folic acid, minerals like zinc, magnesium etc
but a correct diagnosis is primary.
Acute management of your problem may need medication also.
Also avail psychologists evaluation and counselling.
Take care.

You cannot take the tablets on your own over the counter as they are schedule h drugs and need proper evaluation from a psychiatrist, before being prescribed. They also produce side effects like metabolic changes which need to be monitored. They can be given initially and changed later to better medicines for maintenance. All these will be done by a psychiatrist, so kindly consult one. Good luck.

Daily take two glass of normal water with lemon and no coffee or tea. The best method is to be physically active while leaving the medicine. Not a very difficult task but it will take 20 days to left the medicine completely. I guarantee nobody else other then me help you to leave in a very comfortable way....more

single medicine is good. oleanz is a good medicine but has chances of producing weight gain, metabolic changes and sedation. If they are not there, it is wise to continue the same. If so, alternates are there. main thing is symptom control with least or no side effects. All the best.

You can talk to your doctor and have clarity. On your part, you can make up your mind to lead a healthy lifestyle. A healthy diet (more of natural food along with fruits and vegetables everday) and exercising every day will make you fit and energetic and also improve your overall well-being. Learn Yoga and pranayam which can bring harmony, and rejuvenate your body and mind. You can also add Homeopathy later as it is safe and gentle. You can contact me for further details.

Hi lybrate-user! there is no such injection to erase the same. As days goes by the body gets cleansed naturally through natural ways within a week or so. You can take as much as fruits, vegetables and water to detoxify the body. There must be a valid reason for having injected topaz before. Now if you still have doubt regarding the same you can consult with the psychiatrist in person at your locality itself. With regards,
psy. Msv.

Hi, by the list of medications I can understand that you have tried a lot of medicines. Still your problem is not resolved. Since you are near to bangalore the best way I could suggest is visit nimhans bangalore and consult a psychiatrist and a therapist for your current problem you might need more of therapy and a different kind of antipsychotic which works for dysthymia. The medicines which you have mentioned are antidepressants and does not necessarily work in dysthymia.

It is not good continue medicine. It leads side effects. Better to come out from medicine. For depression psychological counselling will helps very much. I think you never attend for counselling. Strong counselling sessions are required. Use the medicine whenever you feel normal then leave it. It is best as soon as possible you should come out from the medicine. Years together you use your mind addicted to medicine. Suppose in future you cannot sleep properly without medicine. It is always bette...more
