About Ocid 20 MG Capsule

Belonging to a cluster of drugs known as PPIs, Ocid 20 MG Capsule is used for reducing the acid content in the stomach. This drug treats duodenal or gastric ulcers, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), inflammation of the esophagus and conditions wherein the stomach secretes excess acid.

Ocid 20 MG Capsule is prescribed as the short-term (4-8 weeks) treatment of severe erosive esophagitis (grade 2 or above), diagnosed by endoscopy and short-term treatment of symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) poorly responsive to customary medical treatment.

Also, it is given in the treatment of heartburn and other symptoms associated with GERD; pathological hypersecretory conditions; peptic ulcer disease; gastric ulcer therapy; maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis.

This medicine is approved for combination use in the eradication of H. pylori in patients with active duodenal ulcer. The most common side effects associated with Ocid 20 MG Capsule include diarrhea, gas, vomiting, headache, nausea and stomach aches.

Although rare, certain severe adverse reactions are increased possibility of bone fractures, decreased magnesium levels inside the body, seizures, irregular heart-beats, jitteriness, muscle spasms and weakness, feet/hand spasms, voice box spasms, etc.

The likelihood of these severe side effects goes up if you take this medicine for over a period of 3 months. Also, prolonged intake of this medication (usually over a period of three years) can result in your body’s decreased ability to absorb Vitamin B12.

Other possible (albeit rare) side effects include diarrhoea, inflammation of the intestine and the stomach lining, damage to the kidneys, allergic reactions, weight loss, and fever.

Symptoms of Ocid 20 MG Capsule overdose include hypothermia, sedation, convulsions, decreased respiratory rate demonstrated in animals only. Treatment is supportive; not dialyzable.

Take as directed, before eating. Do not crush or chew capsules. You may experience anorexia; small frequent meals may help to maintain adequate nutrition.

Report changes in urination or pain on urination, unresolved severe diarrhea, testicular pain, or changes in respiratory status.

        • Warfarin: Omeprazole should be used with caution in you are also taking warfarin. If co-administration is needed, then regular monitoring of prothrombin time, unusual bleeding, the presence of blood in urine is necessary.         • Nelfinavir: The desired effect of anti-viral medications like Nelfinavir will not be obtained when taken with Omeprazole. Inform the doctor if you are taking these medicines simultaneously. An alternate medicine should be considered based on your clinical condition.

        In long-term (2-year) studies in rats, omeprazole produced a dose-related increase in gastric carcinoid tumors. While available endoscopic evaluations and histologic examinations of biopsy specimens from human stomachs have not detected a risk from short-term exposure to omeprazole, further human data on the effect of sustained hypochlorhydria and hypergastrinemia are needed to rule out the possibility of an increased risk for the development of tumors in humans receiving long-term therapy. Bioavailability may be increased in the elderly.
