Hello, thanks for the query.
Both the products are same. The er refers to extended release, which means the drug is released slowly over 12 hours in the gut. That helps maintain a longer therapeutic level. It is beneficial more so if a person has any side effects like gastrointestinal disturbances if plain metformin is taken. Both are fine. Thanks.

Dear lybrate user here I can give some advice regarding diet and exercise.
1. Avoid food and drink containing sugar, eg chocolate, sweets, ice creams.
2. Restrict fried foods, fast foods, paapad, potato-wada etc
3. Eat in moderation of these; chapati, rice, meat, eggs, fish, cheese, milk products.
4. Eat plenty of salads, greenleafy vegetables, fruits, pulses, clear soups.
5. Take small meals 3-4 tms a day instead of heavy one time meals.
