Hi welcome to Lybrate.com
let me tell you that the symptoms described by you suggest that you have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).
In this situation, I suggest you do a total thyroid test in your body.
I also suggest antithyroid drugs methimazole (tapazole) and propylthiouracil (ptu) block your thyroid from making too many hormones.
Beta-blockers that help with symptoms like anxiety, shaking, or a fast heartbeat.
Radioactive iodine this is easier to treat than hyperthyr...more

Hello, Thanks for the query.
I have seen the details, but it is not clear which medicine are you taking and what is the condition. For hyperthyroidism anti-thyroid drug like Methimazole is given and for hypothyroidism Levothyroxine is given. So please come back with following details : T3, T4 & TSH levels, dosage of medication, then on going through those details I will be able to give specific suggestions. Thanks.

There is no cure for hypothyroidism but treatment can keep the condition in control and you can lead a normal life. Treatment of hypothyroidism has only one option which is thyroid replacement medication (synthetic drug for example levothyroxine). Meanwhile there are few various options for treating hyperthyroidism. These include: anti thyroid drugs such as propylthiouracil and methimazole, beta blockers, radioactive iodine, surgery (thyroidectomy).

Yes, it's safe. In fact, it's unsafe not to take thyroid medication during pregnancy if you need it. Whether you have hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid) or the much less common hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid), you'll probably need to take medication and be closely monitored.
During pregnancy, mild hyperthyroidism, in which TSH is low but free T4 is normal, does not require treatment. More severe hyperthyroidism is treated with antithyroid medications, which act by interfering wi...more

Lybrate-user, hyperthyroidism is treated in the following manner:
1) using anti thyroid drugs like methimazole, carbimazole or propylthiouracil. One of these drugs is given for a period of 18 to 24 months. This causes suppression of thyroid gland. Occasionally after 18 to 24 months normal function returns. Treatment is discontinued. However, in many cases suppression does not occur. Then other options are considered.
2) radio active iodine: this is given in a small dose, absorbed by thyr...more

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query.
With TSH 56 mU/L, you have uncontrolled hypothyroidism, for which the treatment is taking adequate dosage of Levothyroxine, as being done now. However, the dosage needs to be properly calculated. Please check your TSH after 6 weeks, it should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L to be free from all the symptoms of Hypothyroidism. Treatment has to be continued for lifetime. You are very young, so please do not neglect. If you have any doubts please do come b...more

You'll want to see your endocrinologist (endocrine system, remember?) or primary care physician asap. You may be referred to a doctor who specializes in thyroid issues (as opposed to diabetes), but your endocrinologist will know exactly how to diagnosis you. The primary way to diagnose thyroid disease is something called a tsh (thyrotropin stimulating hormone) test, which checks the amount of thyroid-stimulating hormone in your system. It's a very easy and inexpensive blood test, so don't delay ...more
