About Mefspas Tablet

Mefspas Tablet is primarily used to treat muscle cramps caused during menstruation in women. Patients who suffer from colicky pain due to intestinal, biliary, ureteric colic and women having extreme menstrual pain can consume Mefspas Tablet.

It is a composition of two medicine, Dicyclomine and Mefenamic Acid that helps by inhibiting sudden muscle contractions, to provide relief from cramps, pain, bloating and discomfort during menstruation.

Apart from this, Mefspas Tablet is also helpful in managing pain associated due to any jerk or movement in intestine, gall duct and urinary tract. It relieves pain caused in women during menstrual cycle by relaxing the muscles of the stomach, thus reducing the symptoms of stomach cramping.

It is advisable that people with a history of glaucoma, enlarged prostate, high blood pressure, myasthenia gravis, liver, heart, kidney or thyroid problems consult a doctor before taking medicine. Furthermore, it is strictly advisable that pregnant women and breastfeeding women must not consume Mefspas Tablet.

Mefspas Tablet causes side effects like dizziness, dry eyes, weakness, blurred vision, bloating and dry mouth. Irregular heartbeat, decreased sexual ability, loss of coordination, improper functioning of bladder and slurred speech. Therefore, it is important that you take the Mefspas Tablet only when prescribed and that too in accurate dosage.

    How does this medication work?

    This tablet works via a dual mechanism and includes medicine Dicyclomine and Mefenamic acid. It is used for the treatment of menstrual pain. Dicyclomine blocks the acetylcholine receptors present on the smooth muscles thereby causing the muscles to relax. Mefenamic acid blocks the action of Cyclo-oxygenase (COX) which is involved in the production of Prostaglandins. It works by preventing the production of prostaglandins and thereby reduces pain and inflammation.

      Whenever you take more than one medicine, or mix it with certain foods or beverages, you"re at risk of a drug interaction.

      • Interaction with Alcohol

        When interacted with alcohol, Mefspas Tablet cause liver problems and internal bleeding in stomach and intestine. You must consult a doctor if you see blood in your stool, cough or vomit.
      • Interaction with Lab Test

        This medication may prolong prothrombin time. Therefore, when the drug is administered to patients receiving oral anticoagulant drugs, frequent monitoring of prothrombin time is necessary. A false-positive reaction for urinary bile, using the diazo tablet test, may result after mefenamic acid administration. If biliuria is suspected, other diagnostic procedures, such as the Harrison spot test, should be performed.
      • Interaction with Medicine

        The tablet can severely react with medicines like methotrexate, tacrolimus, warfarin and ketorolac. Glimepiride, propranolol, ramipril, furosemide and aspirin are the other medicines, which can moderately cause negative reactions.
      • Interaction with Disease

        People suffering from aspirin-sensitive Asthma must avoid the intake of this medicine altogether. Other asthma patients may consume it only on the advice of a doctor. Same goes for people suffering from impaired kidney function, gastrointestinal toxicity and impaired liver function, as well.
      • Interaction with Food

        There is no sufficient information regarding this. There have been a few isolated cases of food poisoning when consumed with a few food and beverages, but no specific results based on clinical trials.
