It is advisable to avoid alcohol when you are taking valproate, since valproate gets metabolised by the liver and alcohol also gets metabolised by the liver.

Hello. Normal range for serum valproic acid is 50 to 100 ug/ml. In some case levels upto 125 can be taken as normal. The important point is about clinical side effects. If you have any despite normal blood levels, then dose need to be decreased accordingly. Thanks.
