If you are on Insulin, why do not you increase its dose.
Should avoid sweets, sugar,jahgery, honey,sweet fruits like banana, mangoes,grapes, cheekoo etc. Take small frequent meals instead of large ones.
Regular exercise is must.

3 things you have to keep in mind-
1-keep her on short acting insulin like actrapid three times daily before each meals.
2-keep her physical activity in mind how much she is active like taking part in sports etc.
3-diet-her calory intake should be more or less fixed in each meal for this you may take help of a dietician.
Train her to recognize symptoms of hypoglycemia and give her some sweets to counter it if it happens.

Insulin happens to be the best treatment for diabetes, because diabetes occurs due to its (insulin's) deficiency. Secondly if a person is having T1 Dm then only drug that can be used is Insulin.
