She may have to modify insulin doses after consulting physician. in addition to treatment she has to follow the advice given below
1.Do regular exercise
2.Reduce weight if overweight
3Control diet
4.Avoid sweets, excess calorie and carbohydrate rich diet, .
5.Adhere to a strict diabetic diet by consulting Dietitian
6.Monitor your fasting, PP blood sugar and Hba1c three monthly
7.Consult diabetologist for advice and treatment

I have read the info, but it is very general. There are no specific details like age, weight, height, blood glucose levels, HbA1c%, dosage of Insulin, any other medications patient may be on, BP readings, lipid profile, any other ailment if the patient has, diet pattern. Unless every single detail is there, I will be unable to give any opinion. Thanks.

No details regarding Insulin Treatment. Sugar levels are much higher. Proper diet, regular exercise, Consultation with your doctor regarding review of Type, Frequency and Dosage of Insulin is required. Then regular follow up, Monitoring and review of treatment periodically, till Sugar Reports and Hb A1c levels are normal.

This happens due to destruction of beta cells present in pancreas, due to an autoimmune process. To avoid weight gain you have to control your diet which should be low in calory, high in fibres and sugar free.
Second most important thing is regular execise which is must for weight control.
Insulin is last option in type two diabetes control. There are several medicines with different mechanisms to control diabetes. You can discuss with your Physician.
It is not necessary to continue with insulin lifelong. It can be stopped also if your doctor thinks so.
