Withdrawl should be mange under doctors supervision only in future
ativan withdrawal
physical dependence occurs as a result of an individual taking certain types of drugs over rather lengthy periods of time. When an individual chronically uses or abuses certain classes of drugs, the individual’s system becomes acclimated to having the drug present and learns to function at a steady level only when the drug is present in the individual’s tissues. The system automatically adjusts its own r...more

I am 33 years old. I am taking paxil cr 25 mg (paroxetine) and lorazepam 1 mg (ativan) since 10 weeks. Diagnosed problem - obsessive compulsive disorder. Work- I am have been teaching tuitions by going to people's house since 2009. And teach only 1 student at a time as I am not as perfect in teaching. At day time I am doing no job. And I have done any job. At present I have only 1 tution or student to teach. I think ocd for me is never more than 10% out of 100. I have only general anxiety. At present I sleep from 9: 30 pm to between 5 to 6 am and only wake up in between sleep for 1 or 2 times for urinate. One day I took 0.5 mg lorazepam rather than 1 mg and I still get sleep. The anxiety is not fully cured but it is very much under control and I believe that I can manage to reduce both of these medicine. The problem is passing the whole day without job is feeling boring and little anxiety. I have been running in morning for 20 min since 3 days and walking for 30 min since 50 days. I do sweeping work of my house (jhadu and pocha). I some how manage to pass the day by reading books, doing maths and using mobile. I have been masturbating since 2003 for 2 times a week. But since the anxiety problem started I have done 2 to 3 times a months. Doctor I need your help in reducing the paxil and lorazepam to quit it permanently. Just please tell me how much dose I can reduce or take it alternatively to reduce over time and how many weeks to reduce it. Please reply soon.

We understand that you have been able to deal with your obsessive compulsive issues with the help of medications and are able to keep yourself busy and make some money as well. This is despite being on medications for a long time i.e. Almost 10 years - which is frustrating. I also think that being in therapy has helped you tide over situations associated with the thoughts and the medications have also helped. We can certainly help you by learning more about your symptoms when you go off of medic...more

Alcohol may be a temporary solution to many problems, however, in the long run, it does cause a lot of damage starting with liver problems and others that involve bodily functions, including digestion, metabolism, excretion, sexual problems and thought or emotional disorders. Therefore alcohol is best avoided as self-medication for many problems including social anxiety. There are many medications available to help deal with social anxiety and it would be better to take on a daily basis if you b...more

Though opinion varies, I generally do not prefer to prescribe sleeping pills for long times. There are other medicines which are better and not addictive. You should consult a psychiatrist for detailed evaluation and treatment. Your father needs treatment of anxiety and depression primarily which will improve the sleep also. Meanwhile google for sleep hygiene and practise them.

Lorazepam on a shorter course few weeks is good drug, on a longer run is very harmful. It can produce early dementia, withdrawal seizures, personality changes, brain shrinkage. But you cannot stop suddenly. Consult a psychiatrist online or in person, it s dose has to be tapered and substitutes given.

There is nothing called better or inferior. All medications are tailored to an individual depending on the symptoms, response and tolerability. Over the Counter self medication and self medication by googling is dangerous to one's body and mind. Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine and can cause severe dependence and side effects on a longer run. Escitalopram ad Sertraline are SSRI's and need to be prescribed carefully adjusting/ titrating dosage by a psychiatrist. Hope this info helps.

There is not any fix table to describe themselves like short term and long term . It is like approximately. No fix table, no one fix answer.
