Hemolytic uremic syndrome and acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis are kidney diseases that can develop in a child after an infection. Hemolytic uremic syndrome is a rare disease that is often caused by the escherichia coli (e. Coli) bacterium found in contaminated foods, such as meat, dairy products, and juice.

Often a report of high blood potassium is not true hyperkalemia. Instead, it may be caused by the rupture of blood cells in the blood sample during or shortly after the blood draw. The most common cause of genuinely high potassium (hyperkalemia) is related to your kidneys, such as: Acute kidney failure. And your father's potassium is not very much increased.

Modern medicine does not have any particular recommendation on this but you can do so if there are no contraindications such as diseases or medicines that increase potassium levels. Taking potassium chloride will not deplete sodium if your kidneys are functioning normally. You will get sodium from several other sources anyway. Table salt is not the only source of sodium.

Coconut water is rich in potassium and few symptoms of decreased potassium (hypokalemia) are -- irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness. I will suggest you to first stop any drugs which is causing hypokalemia.
