Just a rise in the serum potassium levels may not indicate breakdown of rbc when blood was taken for test (need to repeat test in that case), excessive muscle breakdown due to many factors, too much supplementation, kidney disorders, dehydration, alcoholism etc.
You need to correlate with other parameters and signs to give a more accurate diagnosis.
Abnormal potassium levels may cause symptoms such as muscle cramps or weakness, nausea, diarrhea, frequent urination, dehydration, ...more

A healthy adult should aim to consume 3,500–4,700 mg of potassium daily from foods. Certain groups of people should aim to consume at least 4,700 mg per day. Because lack of potassium is rare, there is no rda or rni for this mineral. However, it is thought that 1600 to 2000 mg (40 to 50 milliequivalents [meq]) per day for adults is adequate. Remember: the total amount of potassium that you get every day includes what you get from food and what you may take as a supplement.
