Dear, glimepiride is a sulfonylurea and the other drug is a combination of metformin and sitagliptin. The three drugs have different mode of aciton. Glimepiride and sitapliptin increases the secretion of insulin from the pancreas whereas metformin acts by increasing insulin sensitivity on the tissue sites as well as suppressing glucose generation by the liver. Having said that all these drugs have some or the other side effect. The management of diabetes is trifold, diet, exercise and drugs. Kin...more

Dear lybrate-user kumar,
I would prefer that first you check again your medicine properly. Sitagliptin is not available in 20 mg. And more over I can see glycomet gp1, glyconorm g1, tetagliptin* (mostly teneligliptin) in your details.
And if you are checking your sugar levels with glucometer at home, then I would suggest you check once from laboratory and repeat hba1c also from good laboratory.

Till now, there is no known deleterious effect of long term intake of sitagliptin. Metformin has been used for decades by billions of people without any long term deleterious effects. These are the two medicines in your tablet.

In pt of pcod there is increased insulin resistance ,metformin being a insulin sensitizer drug decreases the insulin resistance, it also helps in reducing wt and in ovulation. Total dose is 1500 mg taken in 2 or 3 divided doses.
Lifestyle changes for wt reduction should also be adopted.

lybrate-user. Upadhyay, Thanks for the query. Ideally glucose levels should be maintained as follows: FBG < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. So the levels mentioned are high. One has to look at diet, exercise and then also towards medicine, whether to upgrade the treatment. Thanks.

Please read about healthy habits for diabetes management from the internet and adapt them with patience and understanding. The intention behind healthy habits is to keep the body and mind fit and healthy while optimising the effect of medicines being taken. Yo...more
