The forxiga (dapagliflozin) belongs to a comparatively newer class of drugs called sglt - 2 inhibitors. There are other similar molecules like campagliflozin, canagliflozin. I am not sure if any othese drugs are being considered by the insurance companies. You may check the same. If none of those molecules are covered then doctor may look at dpp - iv inhibitors like saxagliptin, vildagliptin, linagliptin and tenelegliptin as alternative. Thanks.

You might need an increase in metformin. But check your creatinine first. Also vildagliptin or empagliflozin may help. Your weight goes against insulin initiation. If you can afford semaglutide once weekly should be helpful for u, especially helping to decrease the cardiac risk.
