Hi,
diabetes medication shouldnot be switched suddenly without complete details and history. Even if switched to alternative, the patient needs to be closely monitored. Inspite of insulin, if the post prandial sugar is so high, I would suggest you to please continue with insulin currently but discuss with your mom's physician and kindly raise your concern. Your mom may need little change in medication and also lifestyle management. You can also take private consultation for the same where in...more

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Both Insulins mentioned are same. Only difference is one has 40 units per ml in the vial. The other has 100 units per ml in the pen. So if you are taking 6 units with 40 u/ml one, then 6 units need to be taken with the pen. You will have to fix the dosage on the pen, it will deliver that quantity only. Thanks.

Insulin Actrapid helps to control post prandial glucose rise and since it is a short acting compound control is better. Using a Mixtard 50/50, may be at times disadvantageo...more

Tight glycemic control comes at a risk of hypoglycemia. Regular and timely meals along wid insulin reduces d risk of hypoglycemia. You should monitor your sugar and visit your doctor regularly for fine adjustment of insulin doses.

Hi
If you are on insulin from a very long period it is not advisable to suddenly stop it. This can shoot your blood sugars. You can be slowly taken off insulin with addition of oral diabetic medications if you are a type 2 diabetic. I need further information as in your exercise pattern, diet, latest blood tests, HbA1C report to decide on the oral medications.
