Hello Lybrate-User,
You could use piriton cs if it's only dry cough that is with out any sputum. You can give 5 ml syrup 2 times a day. If there is sputum then you can give chericof ls. Alex syrup contains antibiotics so you have to give it only under doctors advise. You can consult me privately so that I can know more about your daughters symptoms like if there is sputum/ balgam, if there is redness in the throat, sneezing and cold, fever etc.

As you are telling that she had runny nose and also mother having the same, most likely it's viral upper respiratory tract infection. As there is no fever and baby is feeding well, it's good sign. Continue with nasal saline drops frequently, you can give even at every 1 hour. Watch for breathing pattern of baby if you think it's labored or very fast need to get to hospital.

Check his breathing and activity. If he's not breathing fast and not distressed, playful, then no medicines are required. If he looks sick to you, then consider a course of basic antibiotic like amoxicillin orally and look for improvement.

Yes , he has to be checked before giving the drug. Doctor should assess the lung condition and if the cough is associated with lower respiratory infection Ascoril alone will not help.
