Gestational diabetes (diabetes detected during pregnancy) is quite common in india. Usually a 75 g glucose is given for doing a oral glucose tolerance test (ogtt), to detect gestational diabetes. Gdm is diagnosed if 2 hour blood sugar is above 140 mg. The recommended management is to start the patient on medical nutrition and help control blood sugar for 2 - 3 weeks if not controlled, start on insulin injections. Oral drugs are not recommended.

Get your blood sugar monitoring regularly, stick to diabetic diet, exercise regularly, be in touch with your doctor. If blood sugar levels start falling, your doctor will reduce your medicine.

You should keep checking your blood glucose fasting and 2 hrs post food regularly. You may have developed some mild GI side effecr with your previous medicine which are gone with the new that tou have started. But hypoglycemia is a risk which can be prevented with regular monitoring. For chronic pancreatitis patient with diabetes this combination is okay. But insulin will be better in acute pancreatitis or with increased abdominal pain any time. Keep monitoring.

Hello, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. Glycomet 1gm contains only metformin 1000 mg and the other tablet contains glimiperide 1 mg with 1000 mg of metformin. So the second tablet is much stronger in action and should be able to give a better glucose reduction. I am a bit surprised that with a better combination your glucose level has increased. So I feel there is a need to look at overall treatment including following details: fasting, pp glucose levels, hba1c%, dietary ...more
