Lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
With metformin there may be some side effects like the ones described. However, if taken after food, the drug is better tolerated. Since there is no mention of glucose levels & HbA1c%, there is no idea how good the glucose control is.
Switching over to alternat therapies is your choice. There are no drugs that can reduce blood glucose or make pancreas secrete insulin in those therapies, even though a lot of false claims are made. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query.
I have seen the query. However, there is no mention of how the glucose levels are controlled. It is essential to know fasting & pp levels as well as hba1c% before any comment can be made or any suggestion is given. As regards dapagliflozin and vildagliptin+ metformin combination usage, both these (dapagliflozin & vildagliptin) are totally different drugs. One can not be substituted for the other. Mode actions are totally different. Thanks.

lybrate-user, Both Glycomet 500 mg and 500 mg SR tablets contain same medication Metformin 500 mg. The difference is SR has a formulation which releases the drug over 6 to 8 hours. One of the advantage claimed is SR tends to be better tolerated. Some patients complain of gastrointestinal side effects, then SR is advised. As regards drug action both are same. Thanks.

For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history.
Also weakness could be due to over restriction of foods. Diabetes is like a state of starvation for the body. It is not about restrictions but about a balanced intake of all foods.
Though you can follow some guidelines -
have small frequent meals.
Do not fast for more than 2-3 hours.
Avoid a very heavy meal at one time.
Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane j...more

Pancreas is the site to produce insulin in body. So if the pancreas is diseased the only option left is to give insulin from outside body by an injection. In my opinion glimeperide will not help you.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
It appears you have uncontrolled diabetes. You are referring to HbA1c% of 9% I think. In a well controlled diabetic person FBG should be < 100 mg or closer to 100 mg, PP should be 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% < 6.5%
Therefore there is a need to look at your overall treatment which includes drugs being taken, with their dosage, dietary pattern, extent of daily exercise and maintaining of normal body weight. We also have look at other details like lipid profile, BP...more

Mr Sooraj Kumar, Thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. Fasting glucose 140 mg and HbA1c% 9% are quite high. At your age FBG should be < 100 mg, PP 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% < 6.5%. Therefore it is clear that there is need to upgrade the treatment for diabetes. Hence it is necessary to look at dietary pattern extent of daily exercise and present medication, lipid profile details. Thanks.
