Dear lybrate-user,
I find that your father is quite overweight his correct weight should be about 55-60 kg. I suggest that he go on a strict diet (low carbohydrate, normal protein and fat, walk about 5 km per day and gradually reduce weight to about 60 kg. Keep monitoring his sugars at home with a glucometer (fasting and 2 hours after each meal) once a week if the sugars get under control with this dietary modification he may not need additional medication

Thanks for the query.
When diabetes is well controlled fasting is around or below 100 mg, PP 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% < 6.8.
With HbA1c% 8.1, it is clear that your blood glucose is not well controlled. There is relook needed for current treatment.
As regards Zita (Tenelegliptin) the dose is only 20 mg once a day. Thanks.

Your sugar levels are uncontrolled but they are not touching any panic value. So you needn’t worry as much as you are worrying right now and the only remedy in your condition would be to alter your medicines for the best benefit. You need to understand that we are always in a dynamic state of sugar control meaning by which no single medicine can be prescribed for life as the sugar levels keep on fluctuating in the body. I would recommend you to seek a private consult with me.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
AT 71 years, your blood glucose seems fairly well controlled. However, if you are looking for more stricter control, then look at your diet and also increase your daily physical activity by a few more minutes. A small alteration in diet will also help, like increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, reduce intake of carbs by about 10 % of present. Because adding of any drug does not seem to be needed. Look at HbA1c%, it should be < 7%.Thanks.

Along with medicines follow diabetes diet which simply means eating the healthiest foods in moderate amounts and sticking to regular mealtimes. A diabetes diet is a healthy-eating plan that's naturally rich in nutrients and low in fat and calories. Key elements are fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
