Strictly speaking, diabetic should avoid alcohol completely. But if you insist on taking it, ensure that your blood sugars and all other parameters are normal. Then, you may take one 30 ml drink of hard liquor (usually containing around 45% alcohol) per day. However, if you are on Insulin, avoid alcohol.

You probably need to take insulin long-term to keep your sugars under control under the supervision of your doctor. In lean diabetics with very high blood sugars, insulin should be continued probably lifelong

Probably you are taking 80 units of insulin/day. Yes I can start you on cheaper insulin and it may control your sugars better with proper diet and excersize. However I may need your past history and treatment records.

Hi , here are some things you need to ask yourself:
1. How frequently do you eat meals? are there long gaps in between your meals?
2. How often do you exercise? how often does your body get movement?
3. How often do you find yourself feeling stressed out?
4. What is your sleep quality like?
5. Are you eating junk and processed foods? an insight into these would then enable us to understand strategies that ought to be implied for successful, long-term blood sugar control. Hop...more

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
Hello, It is difficult to comment as no blood glucose values have been mentioned. Ideally when diabetes is well controlled fasting glucose should be < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8, If these kind of levels are maintained, then one would rarely get up for passing urine at night.
Secondly are you only on Glargine or are there any oral drugs for controlling glucose? Because in T2 DM (if you are T2 DM patient) usually along with Insulin oral d...more

Mixtard has both long-acting and fast-acting insulin. So the fast-acting might cover your meal, but the long-acting will continue to drop blood sugar for 6+ hours. If you're taking both lantus and mixtard you are doubling up on your basal insulin. Lantus (insulin glargine) is effective, long-acting insulin that provides all-day blood sugar control, but it can cause low blood sugar levels, so be sure to have a source of sugar nearby.
