Hello, thanks for the query.
The forxiga (dapagliflozin) belongs to a comparatively newer class of drugs called sglt - 2 inhibitors. There are other similar molecules like campagliflozin, canagliflozin. I am not sure if any othese drugs are being considered by the insurance companies. You may check the same. If none of those molecules are covered then doctor may look at dpp - iv inhibitors like saxagliptin, vildagliptin, linagliptin and tenelegliptin as alternative. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
Both Vildagliptin and metformin remain over 8 to 10 hours in the blood and tisues. Hence their action continues even during the post lunch period. Vildagliptin will produce its effect as well as metformin also. Thus glucose rise does get controlled with twice a day dosage. Thanks.

lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query.
Madam you have mentioned quite a few drugs, which you want to take. Even though your glucose levels are too high, it is difficult to say whether you can all of these. The treatment for diabetes is not just taking a bunch of medicines which reduce glucose. Each medicine has a specific role and based on each patients needs the treating doctor decides how to begin the treatment. Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. Since there is no information on fasting, pp glucose, hba1c%, lipid profile, dietary pattern & extent of daily exercise, there is no way to give any suggestion. Secondly your bmi (body mass index) is 28.65 kgs/sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/sq meter) which means you have an excess of over 15 kgs. This is a major hindrance in better glucose control. Plus I do not understand the reason for changing the medication. Please come ba...more

Whether you should continue metformin or not, depends on your fasting and pp sugar levels. Kindly get your sugar tested and share reports. If reports are normal, you might have to continue, as they are normal cause you are taking metformin. However if they are low, it can be stopped.
Metformin does not cause hair fall.
Check for other vitamin deficiency.
Eat healthy. Follow strict diabetic diet. Exercise regularly.

If only metformin is taken it should be after food. If sustained release tablet is there then od may ok. If not twice a day is better. Side effects are less if taken after food.
