Disulfiram tablet is taken for curbing the habit of excessive drinking. This tablet is not a solution to alcohol abuse and as such shouldn't be given for longer periods. Its task is to eliminate the habit of drinking in a conditioned individual by developing averse reactions in his body so that the body starts to avoid alcohol.

Seems highly unlikely. Never heard of a person taking disulfiram and alcohol, as the interaction can be life threatening. Try getting admitting your father in a licensed de-addiction centre as in patient and detox him.

Disulfiram acts by producing unpleasant symptoms after ingestion of alcohol. Repetitively experiencing unpleasant symptoms after taking alcohol makes a person quit alcohol.
It does not produce any mental change by itself. Anyway, 3 days is a very short time period to anticipate any behavioural change.
CAUTION: Disulfiram can be potentially lethal. Use only as advised by your Doctor.

The treatment of disulfiram reaction is symptomatic and there are no specific medicine to counter the effect of disulfiram. Please see your gp if you are suffering from adverse effects due to disulfiram use. Also, do not drink alcohol or use products that might contain alcohol when in disulfiram.

It is highly unlikely that your father would quit drinking alcohol if he comes to know that you are adding medication along with his food to treat his drinking problem. The medication disulfiram would definitely cause him to have reaction to alcohol depending on the amount consumed. It would be better to first make him aware of the problems that his drinking is causing to him and his family. If he is motivated, any qualified psychiatrist or a de-addiction specialist will be able to treat him. Yo...more

Taking alcohol on disulfiram can be disastrous, so kindly stop alcohol. Disulfiram is an anti deterrent agent and given to prevent an individual from taking alcohol as it can lead to serious problems. You need to discuss with your psychiatrist on alternate medications if the person wants to be a social drinker at the same time continue anti craving medications. Good luck.

No you can't nullify the effects of antabuse. You should go back to the doctor who prescribed this medication and ask why you were not informed: it is absolutely necessary that you know and so does your spouse or family. The reaction can be dangerous if you indulged in any form of drinking. I am quite sure that you would not have been prescribed this medication without there being quite some indulgence in alcohol.
