You can use minoxidil 5% for long term. To attain maximum results you should use twice daily for minimum 1 year. Finasteride has side effects but not on short term usage. Doctor will give you a wash out period in between instead of using it on long terms continuously. So follow your dermatologist therapy accordingly.

Let me tell you about hairfall. In layman's language, hairfall can be divided into 2 types - temporary hairfall and permanent (which is called as 'Hairloss' rather). In temporary hairfall, hair grows back again from the same hair root, but in case of permanent hairloss, may be because of formation of DHT (Di- Hydro -Testosterone) around hair root it gets choked up, subsequently affects the blood supply...more

Any medicines for growth of hairs should not be taken as these have side effects on sex. I advise you to massage your scalp with coconut oil, extra virgin and include this in your diet. Take proper balanced vegetarian diet. Take plenty of water daily. Do meditation to de-stress. Use shampoo 2 to 3 times in a week, not more than this. Use herbal shampoo. Follow this and be happy.
