Both are benzodiazepine and used for anxiety purposes, however compare to clonazepam, etizolam is less sedative.

Dear Priya,
It is nice that you and your doctor are managing to taper the drugs and stop. You will not get any withdrawal with this regime. But if you are unable to face any stress using all the strengths that you have in and around you, you may get into anxiety disorder. Learn to relax and make all stresses as growth opportunities in this corona days.

Dear Brinda,
It is a good decision to taper off clonazepam. If you have started taking it for relief from anxiety, please practice few relaxation techniques. In that way, you can keep your anxiety to an optimum level to function properly.

Dear Amit,
Clonazepam is prescribed only if necessary. Try to avoid the combination. But if the anxiety is affecting the quality of life, please take both. There is no interaction between the two.

Lybrate-user,
Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine and is prescribed for anxiety but usually dependence occurs if taken for more than 4 weeks. Now you have to get expert help in tapering the Clonazepam and this is done very gradually by 5 % every week and can last several months. You could experience headache, sleeplessness, anxiety and mood changes commonly and sometimes antidepressants are prescribed to help these difficulties. You could also get psychological support during tapering this medica...more

I need help. I have been suffering from mental illness (anxiety and depression) on and off for the last 10 years. I am male, 26 years old, preparing for civil services exam. The first time depression started when I was in kota in 2009, then I even did not know what I was going through. Someone took me to a doctor after many months of suffering. I started taking medicines and depression got better but anxiety remained. I gave my exam of 12th in that anxiety and did poorly as compared to my 10th. Then, I started, yoga, meditation etc ,got admission in engineering college and somehow depression reduced to some extent but mild to moderate anxiety was consistently there. At that time I did not know what is this happening to me. I thought depression and anxiety was the same thing. I did not take any medicine from 2011 to 2016 and I was doing okay. In 2016 I was feeling very much anxious again and had to visit aiims, said the whole story to the psychiatrist. He gave escitalopram 10 mg and clonazepam 10 mg. I started eating those medicines but did not take for many days as I got better in a few days. So I never visited again and neither did I complete the course of medicine. I had to visit again in 2020 since I was feeling very anxious during exam days or few days before exam or when I started preparing seriously for exam, and doctor asked me where were you for such a long time? I said I never realized in these years that I had depression or anxiety, I was doing absolutely fine. He again gave me escitalopram and clonazepam (sos) for 3 months but when 3 months was about to complete, lockdown happened, I could not go again. I ate medicines for 3 months and then left but after leaving some withdrawal symptoms used to come like before eg- heaviness of my head, anxiety, twitching of mouth muscles and then I have to start the medicine again. I want to quit medicines for forever, kindly help me to manage anxiety without this medicine and also diagnose me properly as depression and anxiety is so mixed that only recently I discovered that I had anxiety also. All these years I thought I had depression only.

Sir, my name is Fazal Hussain, from Bhadradri Kothagudem Dist. For the last 15 years I have been suffering with anxiety neurosis, palpitation, hyper curiosity to do any work. I feel irritation to search any books or documents I require, and suddenly start shaking of limbs and irritation. I am also having insomnia. I am 57 years old now. I used to ride bicycle to my office. Do yoga, meditation, breathing exercises. No non veg. I have been contacting psychiatrists whenever the problem was more. They prescribed inderal, restyled, escitalopram, clonazepam, etc. I used to take the medicine for about a month or so and whenever I feel comfort I used to stop the medicine and sincerely tried to control by natural means of yoga, cycling, breathing exercises etc. With soft veg food. As per last year's test reports of ECG, 2D Echo, TMT, there is no heart related ailments. But for the last one year I am having high bp. Physicians prescribed 40 mg telma. Even with telma, the BP remains 160/100. At that time if I take 20 mg inderal+ 0.5 mg restyl, the BP remains normal temporarily. Psychiatrists advising inderal+clonazepam +escitalopram and physician advising telma. I am in the confused state. However as per the doctors advise I am taking telma, inderal, clonazepam, doth at present but the BP is always fluctuating. For hypothyroidism I am taking 20 mcg of thyroxine daily for the last one year. In view of the above, I would like to see you sir. Thanks for patience reading.
