Asked for male, 65 years old from Ranchi

I am 65 male my I was taking antihypertensive medicine telmisartan 40+ chlorthalidone 6.25 since 3 year but when my bp become uncontrolled and 180/100 doctor added amlodipine 5 mg to the above combination and after taking the same for 2 months my bp now 140/80 should I stop talking amlodipine 5 mg or reduce the dose to 2.5 also when I should take bp medicine presently I am taking at bed time. Also I have type 2 diabetes for 20 years kindly advise and oblige.

Please continue amlodipine same 5 mg dose as your bp is just controlled. People with diabetes need strict control of bp as high bp and diabetes both can cause proteinuria (protein leak in urine). Infact, get urine albumin/creatinine ratio to check for proteinuria. Reduce salt intake and watch your weight.

Dear doctor, I am 64 years old suffering from hypertension from last 6 months. My bp is 160/ 100 and taking telmisartan 20mg + amlodipine 2.5 mg in the morning and at night. In addition I am taking metoprolol succinate extended release 12.5 mg after lunch hours. Ecg is normal. Blood sugar fasting 110 and after 2 hrs of meal is 145. Hb1ac - 6.4. I am afraid of taking metoprolol succinate because of its side effects. Amlodipine also causes water accumulation in legs and feets as I have read in books. Please advise me which medicine should I continue so that my bp and sugar remains in limits.

My mother 50 female is suffering from some sharp pains at eyes, ear,neck, head etc. These will go away when she took pregabalin IP 75 mg + mecobalamin JP 750 mcg combination drug. It is prescribed by our doctor for vitamin B12 deficiency. My doubt is the pains occurring to her are neuropathic? And she had high blood Pressure. She is using telmisartan 80 mg + hydrochlorothiazide 12. 5 mg to control blood pressure along with rabeprazole sodium 20 mg for gas and atorvastatin 10 mg for cholesterol. So can she use pregabalin IP 75 mg + mecobalamin along with above medicines? And she is using this only when pains occur. It it good to use this medicine when ever needed? If not what is best time to use it.

Pregbalin is a nerve painkiller type of medication and your doctor will be the best guide to tell the duration of medication and mecobalamin needs to be taken daily once.

Hello, I am a 32-year-old male living overseas. From the past two years, I am taking telmisartan 12 mg hydrochlorothiazide due to blood pressure problem. I have two problems that have arisen lately. One desire to have sex has finished. I used to perform well before, but now libido has fallen quite a bit. Although the drive is still there, performing for a long time has become very difficult. But when I skip the medicine for one day, everything becomes back to normal. Secondly, my left eye has been flickering for the past two months. It does not flicker all day, but only sometimes when I am concentrating or thinking about something. But does not happen all the time. Sometimes I also feel flicker in the middle of the forehead as well. Any help or guidance will be appreciated.

Hello Friend, Good that you are seeking a help here. 32yrs is not an age loose sexual interest. May be your prolonged intake of medicine can cause such side effects or else it could be due to other lifestyle disorder issues. Such issues can't be seen in isolation. Both physical and mental factors influence is such problems.

I have blood pressure from last 17 years. I am taking medicines 1. Ealry Morning 7:30AM before tea Omez+Becasule, 2. 8:30 AM Morning -Amlopres AT 25 mg + 1/2 Ditide alternately 3. In evening I am taking Amlopres 5. 4. In night after meals before sleeping I am taking the Rivotril. I am having oedema in left leg and now it has come left leg also. It vanishes when I stop taking amlodipin. Once Amlodipin has been stopped I have been given Beta blockers has also controlled my blood pressure but my pulse rate has gone down upto 57-60 therefore I have been again shifted to Amlodipin. Kindly suggest some other new salts which can prevent the BP without any side effect like oedema and lower pluse rate. Regards

Hi, getting edema is very common with amlodipine ....
you can be started on telmisartan or ramipril if no other contraindication

This is a followup question for Dr. Anunai shrivastav who answered my question recently. He suggested to stop ramipril and take olmesartan 40 mg. Thanks for that. I will be obliged if he can tell me, if I can take telmisartan 40 mg which is consumed by my wife and is readily available with us. I can try that for a week if doctor has no reservations. Advice if amlodipine also can be continued with telmisartan. For olmesartan 40 mg ,i do not have prescription. I paste below my earlier question for reference as below:- I am diabetic on insugen 30/70 refill injection, glycomet gp2, ppg 0.3 mg and other drugs. I am also hypertensive on ramipril 5 mg and amlodipine 5 mg. My query is related to hypertension and not on diabetic problem. I am taking the above medicines for last 5 years on hypertension but my hypertension is more than 160/75. It shoots to 175 frequently. I began treadmill jogging exercise for 1 hour every day and then hypertension reduces to about 150/72. If I do not jog for 1 day, hypertension goes back to 160/170. I am consuming ramipril 5 mg + amlodipine 5 mg everyday, once before lunch. The hypertension is not at all reduced with these drugs but only by jogging. I am 60 years old and jogging for 1 hour is very strenuous, leading to knee pain frequently. Suggest replacement drugs for hypertension.

best medicine to control blood pressure is exercise as you realize. As of now your blood pressure menu is having space to either increase dose or add one more drug. Here I will suggest to add one more drug chlorthalidone 12.5 mg.

I am sure you must have seen the ingredients of both these tablets. There is hardly any difference as glycomet trio 2 contains voglibose 0.2 mg & the other tablet has voglibose 0.3 mg.
