As per standard protocols, there needs to at least 5 years of seizure free period before tapering and stopping medications. Newer protocols followed by some doctors believe in stopping medications even if there is 1 year of seizure free interval. I don’t think you are taking your anti epileptic drug in proper dose. That is the reason your seizures are partially controlled.
If your anti-epileptic is phenytoin (Eptoin), it’s actual maintenance dose is 3-5 mg /kg body weight /day.
My suggestion is: you should take Eptoin 100 mg thrice daily and continue. However take advise of your Neurologist, who will be your final judge.
Also avoid precipitating factors of seizures.

No eptoin must be continued or another antiepileptic. This drug will be needed for 1 year or so then can be tapered.
