Hi sir, I am suffering with fits from 2005, from past 4.5 years I am not facing any problem regarding the issue. The doctor I visit regularly shifted to other place. In staring I used eptoin 300mg-350mg, I am using levipil 500 mg twice a day from 2013 jan. Can I stop medication as I am not suffering with fits about 4.5 years or not, so that I will consult doctor after your opinion.

As per standard protocols, there needs to at least 5 years of seizure free period before tapering and stopping medications. Newer protocols followed by some doctors believe in stopping medications even if there is 1 year of seizure free interval. It is best that you consult with your neurologist and let him decide on what is best for you.

I'm taking encorate chrono 200 since 2.5 years and taken eptoin 300 for more than 1 years then doctor told that I can stop now because I was not having seizures for 2 yes but as I stopped after I again got seizure attacks back now I again started my previous 2 medicines continuously but still after that I having seizures 4 to 5 times .so what to do now. Hello Dr. I had my first fits in 2002 while having lunch in college, after that for 8 years I didn't had any fits and was taking Eptoin 100 mg a day. But again in 2014 while chatting on mobile I had fits with left body jerking movements. So with the suggestion of neurologist I increased the dosage to 2 tablets a day. But still I feel some kind if Aura feeling while I am having my lunch or dinner. So would kindly like to know a proper treatment. Thanks.

Dear lybrate-user,
I donât think you are taking your anti epileptic drug in proper dose. That is the reason your seizures are partially controlled.
If your anti-epileptic is phenytoin (Eptoin), itâs actual maintenance dose is 3-5 mg /kg body weight /day.
My suggestion is: you should take Eptoin 100 mg thrice daily and continue. However take advise of your Neurologist, who will be your final judge.
Also avoid precipitating factors of seizures.

My father is 54 year old weighs 70 kgs has had a brain hemorrhage 5 months ago. His right side was paralyzed and and the hemorrhage on basal ganglia due to high blood pressure. Doctors have put him no blood pressure control medications and epotin er 300 Muscle spasticity is on the right side of the body. My father is keen on leaving eptoin er because it has side effects. Please advice to continue or not.

No eptoin must be continued or another antiepileptic. This drug will be needed for 1 year or so then can be tapered.

I had a seizure stroke on 14/06/2015 during sleep. All the tests were done including MRI. Reports were normal. Doctor kept me on EPTOIN 300 ER once a day with frisium 10 and folvite and nerfit. Since then I am taking these medicines. I never had any problem after 2015 june. My doctor said initially that I had to take these medicines for a year. But now he does not stop the medicines and is saying that keep taking till I say. Kindly guide me what shall I do.

You have to do an EEG and decide if you have to continue medication, if you have an epileptic focus

My son is 3 years 5 months old. He hits himself and becomes aggressive and behaves violently he hits his head on the wall, he hits his throat stomach and so. So we consulted a pediatrician and through EEG we came to know that he is having abnormal epilepsy activity. He is taking EPTOIN, piracetam and VALPARIN syrup from july but it continues the same and it is becoming really worse please help me and suggest us what to do to stop this?

Hi, I read your problem. Your son unfortunately has seizure disorder. These disorders need a lot of patience from the side of physicians and neurologists and most of it is born by the parents. He might have behavioral disturbances which are not uncommon in seizure disorder. Adding an antipsychotic agent (serotonin dopaminergic) agent might help. My mother is a patient of epilepsy since 1981. She was taking green table. But from few months back doctor told her to stop the medicine as she was not having any attack. But suddenly few days back again she got the attack and then doctor told her to take levera 500 and eptoin 100 mg. She is a chronic kidney disease patient. Now my question is can she take green table only at night time instead of these medicines.

Very difficult to understand which is the green tablet, but whatever it was it was controlling the seizures so you can start it but do it in consultation with the doctor who has prescribed these medication.
