your fasting sugar should be <140 and PP <180...ur PP sugar is far above the normal...yes u need change in medications..riomet which u r taking od should be increased to twice daily...don't worry it will not cause any harm..your other reports regarding kidney function tests ,serum lipids are required

I am 28 yr old. Height is 5'2" and weight is 66. I have hypothyroidism and PCOS. I Am taking thyroxine medicine. Can I also take metformin. My doctor prescribed me metformin 500 mg 2 tabs twice a day. I had a baby in jan 2015 and now I am having weight issues. Will metformin help reduce weight?

Hello, I have shown to gynaecologist few days ago, she asked for some test and prescribed metformin to me (1 tablet per day). I visited her because my periods are not regular. So she asked me to take metformin. Last periods I have on 4th may. But 4 june it didn't happen. Yesterday I have just taken 1 tablet of metformin and next periods I got my periods. So should I keep taking this medicine during periods?

If a Diabetes patients is being administered Voglibose, Metformin, glimepiride and Tenegliptin in the morning, and Voglibose, Metformin, glimepiride dose in the night. Can the medicines be scattered between Breakfast and Lunch. (i.e. Voglibose, glimepiride and Metformin during breakfast and teneligliptin during Lunch)

The dosage of various medicines for glucose control can be adjusted on the basis of patients needs, doctor's advise and also based on dietary intake. Usually Glimepiride is either given once a day or twice in some cases. Metformin can be given 3 times a day again depending upon the need. Voglibose is usually recommended with each meal, that is three times a day. As it is mainly for reducing post food glucose rise. Thanks.

I have seen the query and understand your concern. However, there is no mention of blood glucose levels (fasting & pp), hba1c%, your weight, height, dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise and lipid profile as well as bp readings. All these details are needed before any advise can be given. Action of glimiperide and metformin is different. The need for the patient depends on the severity of glucose levels. I have insulin resistant pcos doctor put me on metformin and fertility meds such as fertomid as well as provera to regulate my period. Hence I am concerned about the side effects of metformin on my body as I don't want to get thin. What other meds or remedies will be effective just like metformin but with less side effects?

Metformin is safe drug used for insulin sensisitation. It will not make you thin. If you are very particular to change it, tab hyponidd one twice daily is an effective substitute. After 2 weeks, you can increase the dose to 2 tabs twice daily.
