If your blood sugar levels are consistently around 85 -90 mg/100 ml, then there is no need to take any medication. But I would advise you to keep checking sugar level at once every 3 months.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
From the details given it is clear that present treatment is not giving good control. There is a need for upgrading the treatment. Plus a need to look at the diet and extent of daily exercise. Ideally fasting glucose should be < 100 mg, PP 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% <7. Looking at your weight and height it is clear that with a BMI of 34.56 kgs/Sq meter, you are already close to being ingrade 2 obesity. Your ideal bosy weight should be 56 kgs, which means there is an ...more

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. Since there is no information on fasting, pp glucose, hba1c%, lipid profile, dietary pattern & extent of daily exercise, there is no way to give any suggestion. Secondly your bmi (body mass index) is 28.65 kgs/sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/sq meter) which means you have an excess of over 15 kgs. This is a major hindrance in better glucose control. Plus I do not understand the reason for changing the medication. Please come ba...more

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Tablets with either XL or SR mean the drug is released slowly over period of 12 hours or longer. Other tablets have normal releasing compound where action may last for 6 to 8 hours or longer depending upon type of the compound and its pharmacokinetic characteristics. . Thanks

Mr Prawal Bora, Thanks for the query
I have seen the details given. Your fasting is definitely high, but PP and random are quite good. This may be due to food intake, particularly the dinner. Since there is no mention of HbA1c%, it is difficult to comment on long term control. However, another important aspect is your excess weight, with a BMI of 29.39 kgs/Sq meter (Normal < 23 kgs/Sq meter), you have excess of over 15 kgs. Therefore, weight reduction will definitely help in achieving bett...more

Hello, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details. Your fasting & pp glucose levels are too high. In fact you need a much stronger correction. More drugs are needed. What is the hba1c%? Ideally in a well controlled person fasting should be < 100 mg or closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 170 mg & hba1c% <6.8% (not mentioned). Therefore, your doctor has suggested the newer tratment. Metformin dosage is up to 2500 mg per day. Looking at your age (53 years), there is a greater need for achieving a mu...more
