Hello Dr. I am 20 years old. Since 4 days I was getting irritation in throat. I have noticed some redness in back of throat. I have consulted the ent surgeon and told me its chronic phygarnties. I am really scared it would cause throat cancer? Dr. have prescribe me medicine (crya d and rantac 300) for 10 days and nasal drop (dexa) need some details if there is throat cancer will it be curable?

Hi lybrate-user. Your symptoms are pointing more towards pharyngitis. Throat cancer presentation is not so. Generally it is painless and they will not have any redness which again is a sign of inflammation (infection. So get treated by your local ent surgeon with antibiotics and betadine gargling and also take antacids and avoid oily and soar food. You will be fine and generally at your age and if you are not a smoker or tobacco chewer we do not expect you to have throat cancer.

My son who is 20 years old and pursuing Engineering, has been under treatment of Tegrital (carbamazepine) from the age of 3. He had simple partial focal seizures which were controlled by Tegrital. However, whenever tapering was advised after event free period of 3 years, seizures recurred. In last 17 years there have only been 3 or 4 instances of recurrence of seizures. Last he had was in early 2015. My son now plans to pursue his masters in USA. Would it be possible to pursue studies in US with the above pre existing conditions. Secondly, what is the probability of discontinuing Tegrital with no recurrence of seizure.

Epilepsy is not a barrier in success. He can do easily whatever you want whenever he wants to study. Considering that there are multiple failures of stopping medicine ; its better to continue this medicine for many years. It is not a major issue to continue such kind of medicine for many years.

Hi there, I am 24 years old, I have headaches similar to cluster and migraines already 8 years, but in the past 3,4 years I have them every single day. From 15 min till 3h and sometimes couple times a day. Last year I had a surgery, nose septum but it didn't help. This year I have done all the tests, blood image is perfect, thyroid is perfect, mri was good except the diagnosis of all 3 sinuses infection and without liquid in them, but it was determined by the neurologist and orl doctor that I have "chronic complicated migraines" after the treatment with carbamazepine and vitamins, the headaches were still there, nothing has changed. So I did couple days ago the angiography and it was determined that everything normal except sinusitis of all 3 sinuses and "hypoplasia left transverse sinus venous" is this hypoplasia dangerous, how can I cure this? Thank you in advance.

Dear lybrate-user, how is it possible to have cluster headache, and migraine in a patient. Hypoplasia left transverse venous sinus is not dangerous.

Hello, when my sister was few days old, she suffered from stroke (probably from aneurysm and i'm not sure if this is considered cerebral palsy). She developed weakness in one side of her body but she was able to live a relatively functional life until the age of 19 years, when she started developing epileptic attacks. The attacks are mostly myoclonic with occasional generalized stiffness in her body and sometimes they precipitate falls. The doctor put her on carbamazepine which has marginally controlled her attacks. My question is: are medications the only available option for this condition? I've heard that epilepsy that results from fixed brain lesions are poorly controlled by medications, will surgical evacuation of the dead brain area help controlling the condition better than medications? And if so, I would also like to know if these types of surgeries are well established or just experimental. Thank you for being interested.

My mother is 58 and she is diabetic from last 5 years. She is taking Tab Amaryl 1mG, voglitor (0.2mg 500). Recently after Dexa scan we found that her bones are getting weak and there is a high risk of fracture, she is on medicine like tab Dolo, Tab Uprise D3, Tab Calcimax, Tab Osteofos, Tab pregaba. She is also taking Cranpac-D for immunity. She is getting repeated UTI from last 4 months and each time same bacteria responsible for this is Escherichia coli. Doctor advised Septran DS after going through the Urine culture report. But the problem is the infection returns just in a week after discontinuation of Septran DS. What could be the root cause of the problem, please suggest a permanent solution to this problem.

The root cause if low immunity, which is the main reason for infection to return. Ask her to take tab. Chandraprabha vati (dhootpapeshwar company) 2 twice a day just before meals. These will also be beneficial in diabetes. If she takes regularly, she won't suffer from regular uti.

I am aged 55, had severe low back pain a year back, relieved after a week's rest. MRI revealed disc bulging. Could start working. Two months back I had relapse and recovered to some extent. Four weeks back I had relapse with severe pain, immobility, jerking muscles with pain lower back on getting from supine position. Now ok. DEXA Scan revealed osteoporosis -2.2 to -2.6 spine. I am male gender 74 years old I have been getting my dexa scan every year or 1.5 years, in 2010 the report showed that I was in osteopenia. Range and for six year it remained in the same range varying slightly up and down now last year I got it done now some values are moving towards osteoporosis range, doctor says do some more efforts to move back what steps should be taken to improve, I have been taking vitamin d and calcium tablets as maintenance dose and these values are well within normal range, I do walk 35 minutes and some acnes and prayanams daily in diet I am conscious to take vegetables rich in calcium and milk and curd and cheese and lead active life travelling in buses and metro and do my works more in walking mode. Please suggest.

I tested covid19 positive. I was also positive of 20 days pregnancy which not known to me. I took 3 medicines ivermectin 12 mg for 5 days, doxycycline 100 mg 8 days, dexa for 3 days. When I missed my period I got to know I am pregnant. Now I am 7 weeks pregnant. I am done with 7 weeks pregnancy ultrasound and found everything is fine like heart beat and size of the foods. There is nothing to worry as if now, continue folic acid tablet and get my scan with uterine artery doppler at 11-13 weeks along with double markers and you can later consult in private and show the reports.
