Ideally, your father should want to give up alcohol himself to begin with. If not, it is going to be an uphill task and to the most part impossible. However, you should not be in want of trying. If he is unwilling to seek help, he needs to be admitted to a rehabilitation center for at least 6 months. If not, there are centers who will come and pick him up when he is drunk, when his resistance will be ineffective. This will require mom's permission and written consent. After your dad returns from...more

Alcohol dependence involves intense craving or desire to drink alcohol. People drink for pleasure or rationalize it on external factors like family problems, work tension, etc. They drink continuously, i.e. Almost daily or even weekly once or twice with withdrawal symptoms, tolerance, bodily damage, etc.
You need to consult a psychiatrist and go for 3 steps of de addiction. 1st is detoxification, when alcohol is stopped and the withdrawal is made smooth with minimal discomfort, 2 nd is maint...more

You cannot stop drinking through medication alone. The disulfiram is to act as a deterrent during this time you are on treatment. In fact you will have a serious reaction if you consumed alcohol during this medication! So I do not understand how you took the medication and had drinks too! You need to go for counseling or deaddiction treatment as well. So do seek addiction counseling and if your issues are too strong you will need rehabilitation. It does not matter when you feel like drinking, a...more

You are too young to implement my suggestions and will need the help of some adults in the family. So whatever I suggest, kindly involve or share it with mom or elder family members to make it effective and suffer the least backlashes, if any. Ideally, your father should want to give up alcohol himself to begin with. If not, it is going to be an uphill task and to the most part impossible. However, you should not be in want of trying. Alcoholism is a severe problem, which can make a person's life miserable and also make the society detest him. The aim of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence or staying away from alcohol use. The treatment of alcoholism can only begin when an alcoholic accepts the problem and realizes that he must get rid of the habit for his own good and the good of his loved ones.

There are three main stages in the treatment of alcoholism:

1. Detoxification: Detoxification is the first ste...more

You have all my sympathies and I am very concerned that this person has not reached what we call, ‘Hitting Rock Bottom’ as yet. To me his Rock Bottom could be death i.e. Only death can stop his addiction! Anyway do not despair as yet and you may attempt the following and see how it works: in this attempt, he may be taken to a de-addiction center that is strict and will also have follow up treatment and AA meetings for him to compulsorily attend. You are too young to implement my suggestions ...more

If he has been hospitalized for alcoholism, he must be in a very serious condition both in the habit and medically. I am very concerned that your Jijaji has not reached what we call, ‘Hitting Rock Bottom’ as yet. To me his Rock Bottom seems to be death i.e. Only death can stop his addiction! Anyway do not despair as yet and you may attempt the following and see how it works: I know you may have tried a de-addiction center but he should not be released if he was not ready. Since medication is not working all that well, he probably needs admittance in a rehabilitation center. If he wants to and is willing, he can get out of the addiction to alcohol with support. If he thinks he can do it from home, that I agree, may be very difficult and it has not worked so far. He has developed dependence and tolerance, two factors that work together, to increase our need for the substance and to need more of it for the same pleasure, over time. These effects condition us psychol...more
