Lybrate-user: People suffering from schizophrenia should take their medications daily. Occasional use can lead to emergence of symptoms. Clozapine especially is a medication that should only be taken under supervision of a physician with very regular blood work to make sure WBC count (cells that fight infection) are not getting too low.

There is no single drug as good or bad, different people respond to different medications for negative symptoms, so explain the nature of the negative symptoms to the psychiatrist and let him decide based on his experience, your body weight, medical condition, etc. All the best.

Dear lybrate-user,

Apart from tablets, you need psychosocial rehabilitation services to improve your memory and logical reasoning. Please consult a psychiatric social worker or rehabilitation specialist for it. You can also take cognitive remediation therapy. All these may be available in a rehabilitation halfway home or shelter...more

You are describing behaviours of a typical paranoid schizophrenia. The NIMHANS visit should have been followed up since they are very thorough. However, I quite understand your plight in terms of distance. Anyway, CBT is a must and must used in tandem with medication. The more a person with this disease with draws, the more internal they become. The internal world of a schizophrenic is a house full of crazy ideas and notions. This must be prevented at any cost. If she likes parties and functions...more

It is compulsory to undergo regular blood test (WBC) when on clozapine. If she does not do, she has to be compelled or the medication, changed. Chance of agranulocytosis is 1% and it is the protocol to do, else no other option, but to change medication. All the best.
