Dear Rekha,
Ask your chemist to substitute any company's Citalopram. Please check on the dose carefully. If it is Escitalopram, it will be half the dose of Citalopram. It can be given with water, tea or milk.
Discuss with your doctor so that you can shift to Escitalopram in future.

Hi lybrate-user,
Clonorest (clonazepam, isa benzodiazepine) which if used on a regular basis can cause dependence. If it is indicated in your condition for example to improve sleep or reduce anxiety, I suggest that you only use it as and when required. Citalopram (c-pram) is an antidepressant and is the most important medicine for you totake and it has to be taken everyday. So to answer your question- if your depression is mild and not troubled with insomnia or anxiety symptoms then taking c...more

Dear Lybrate user,
its good that your husband is responding to treatment. Side effects are inevitable part of any treatment. However we can find ways to reduce them by modifying the medicines and adding on counselling. Don't worry. Feel assured. Fix an appointment with a psychiatrist either in person or through tele consultation. You will get appropriate guidance.

Citalopram and fluoxetine did not directly affect penile erection as objectively assessed by rigiscan, although an impairment in the subjective assessment of erectile function was observed, but was significant only for citalopram, and it was thought to be a possible consequence of the delayed ejaculation perceived as erectile dysfunction.

No it will not cause any problem or withdrawal symptoms but if you are given this medication need for it should be rechecked. As medication is used for depression and anxiety, untreated illness can get you in trouble in future.

Hello, Lybrate-user, It is not recommended to change the dosage of your medication without consulting your doctor first. If you have just began taking the medication, please allow it to take effect, which can take some time depending on the strength of the medicine itself. If you still feel you require a higher dosage, consult with your doctor again and share your concerns with them.

Dear Renu,
Citalopram starts its action after 2-3 weeks only. It also acts in a particular dose. Please follow up with your doctor after 2-3 weeks of citalopram. Some persons living with recurrent depressive disorders, may need a mood stabiliser in addition.
