propranolol or other betablockers group of medicines have minimal side effects compared to other medicines you had been taking
continue with medicines even if bp gets normal because these betablockers reduce the risk of getting heart attack or stroke
second fear, safety for diabetics, these medicines do affect blood sugar levels and lipids too but it's so minimal that your dose of Medicine for diabetes will not be affected.

-Along with the medication you have be very careful about your diet as you had a ulcer -avoid spicy, fried & junk food completely, have 4-5 small meals including snacks rather than 3 large meals as an empty stomach will aggravate your condition, do not skip meals, have meals on time, give about 1-2 hrs before you lye down after meals, avoid tea, coffee, cold drinks, alcohol, tobacco if you consume
