I'm 37 year old male on bp meds since the age of 29, i've been on atenolol 50, nifedipine 10, amlodipine 5, currently on metoprolol succinate xl 50 and cilnidipine 10. I learnt from my personal experiences and also from web literature that beta blockers/calcium channel blockers can cause slow heart rate or bradycardia unlike angiotensin receptor blockers (arb' s) like telmisartan or thiazide diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide or chlorthalidone. Can I switch from beta blockers to arb's with docs advice to negate the effects of beta blockers. What about celiprolol, carvedilol and pindolol? My last bp readings were, 130/90, 140/80 and 130/85 monitored every 7-10 days. I have undergone my lipid profile, kidney function, liver function and thyroid tests a month ago and everything seemed normal. I'm not diabetic and it doesn't run in the family as well. I do have allergic rhinitis from so many years for which I have tried levocetirizine, montelukast and fexofenadine meds as and when required. Also take placida plus for anxiety issues. I'm just asking this out of curiosity.

Hi curiosity is fine, but if you try googling each and every medication you will find something which your mind wants to find. What is best for you your doctors know better than you as the beta blockers which you have mentioned you have just googled them and have no idea regarding their efficacy potency or mortality benefit. You should know that not any beta blocker can be started as there is scientific evidence behind which one to start in a particular patient and this information sadly your go...more

Hello doctor, I am a 54 years old male. I was detected with hyperthyroidism for the first time when I was about 32 yrs. And was on carbimazole at min. Dose for few years before I happened to see a homeopath whose prescribed medicines effectively controlled my thyroidism. Eventually I didn't require to take any medicines for next few years without any issue before developing the symptoms again with abnormal lab test parameters and severe weight loss. That required me to start carbimazole again at moderate dose to regain my lost weight and continued with the min. Dose to maintain the condition thereafter. About three years back, I started to lose weight again and continued to lose after losing about 10 kg. So I had to increase my dose and followed a diet prescribed by my nutritionist and regained most of the lost weight within few months. Recently about a year back, I started to lose weight again and I increased the dose to offset the weight loss. But a recent lab test shows my tsh level as way too high. I don't remember of having my tsh level ever so high, in fact it was mostly very low, beyond measure. So my doctor obviously asked me to stop the carbimazole immediately for about 2 months before doing the lab test again for the results. My doctor explained that since my hyperthyroidism is a chronic condition which is an autoimmune disorder that might reverse the condition after some years. Well, I have lost more than 10 kg this time too. Please be informed that I am taking vitamin d as well and I use to take that occasionally since last few years. I have also been taking a tablet of nebivolol 5 mg daily to control my high blood pressure for almost 10 years. My cholesterol parameters have been high although the triglyceride is normal for several years but I am not advised for any medicine for that rather I try to follow the restrictions. Please suggest me the course of treatment as well as diet plan and do's and don'ts to regain my weight quickly. Thanks.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. However, there is no mention of actual TSH and T4 levels and even the dosage of Carbimazole. Based on whatever stated in the details, the reason for high TSH is excessive dosage of Carbimazole . Normal TSH expected to be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L at which level most of the symptoms related to thyroid conditions are absent.
Another aspect which is very important point is in case of hyperthyroidism in quite a few patients ...more

Dear doctor, This is my medical history. In year 2012, my creatine level increased suddenly up to 7.0. At that time urine flow also stopped. Doctors diagnosed that urine flow block is reason and BNI (Bladder Ncek incision) surgery done. With that urine flow problem solved and creatine level gradually came down to 3.0. It is maintained at this level till now. Every three months I am consulting nephrologist. As per his suggestion, I am using following medicines. Statics 10 mg one at night and nephro caps capsule one at night. Four months back I felt sudden occasional giddiness in brain, as if some thing was happening / flowing in it. I consulted physician He found my BP increased to 158 and recommended cilnidipine- 10 mg once a day at bed time, prolomet xl 25 mg - one in morning. Even with BP medicine BP controlled, giddiness didn't reduce. CAT scan and ECG were done and report found normal. I consulted neurologist. He prescribed zevert PVG tablets - 2 times a day and petril beta 20 tablets daily once before bed. As per his advice, I used Zevert for 20 days and petril for 40 days along with BP medicines. No my giddiness problem is almost solved. When I get occasional doubt, I am using zevert PVG tablets - 1 times a day and petril beta 20 tablets for 2 to 3 days. Currently medicines used by me, as per nephrologist advice are Prolomet xl 25 mg - 1 in morning Cilnidipine- 10 mg - 1 at night bed time Statics - 10 mg - 1 at night bed time Nephrocaps - 1 daily My query - I have a 11 year boy. For last, five years, I am dependent on viewing of soft porn movies and masturbation only for sexual satisfaction. Now a days, after masturbation, I am feeling as if some thing flowing in my body, feeling of lightness in my heart. I am getting a sense of fear, nervousness at that time. Is it because of any BP fluctuation at that time? Can I continue masturbation in this condition or I should stop. I need your kind advice.

Nebistar-h contains nebivolol and hydrochlorthiazide. Like all other medicines this one has its specific usage, if taken as instructed and under regular follow up of a physician with blood pressure and pulse monitoring, it can be taken safely in long term.
If you notice any change in your health or how you feel please visit the prescribing doctor because all medicines can have adverse effects in certain specific situations.
Bottomline -be regular in your follow up to the doctor and conti...more

Metoprolol telmesartan cilnidipine, 3 medicines. Probably over medication. Bp control requires discipline. Measure bp only once every month on fixed dates after resting for 10 minutes. Any other way of looking after your bp is unhealthy.

Cilacar t is a combination of cilnidipine and telmisartan. It should technically not cause increased urination unless you are consuming a lot of water after taking the tablet. Reduce your water intake couple hours before bed and you should be fine. To be doubly sure, check you psa levels and do a sonography of your abdomen with pvr (post void residual urine) on a full bladder to rule out a prostate issue.
