I have been gaining too much weight since my asd closure back in 2014 december (first year mbbs. Until then I used to have a plateau weight of max 54 kg. Now i'm 81.80 kg and since 2015 i'm on psy meds (currently on oxcarbazepine 450 and sertraline 100 - both od). I took a usg in 2017 and was diagnosed with pcos. Currently i'm trying to lose weight but futile. I would like to know if there is any supplement (other than metformin to reduce insulin resistance) which might help me accelerate the weight loss.

I have bipolar disorder diagnosed in 2010. Presently I am taking Lovax 300 mg (Oxcarbazepine) x 2 times, mortimer 25 mg (Nortriptyline) x 1 at night. Alprax 0.25 mg x 2 times. My problem is Lovax 300 mg which is a mood stabilizer works OK but causes side effect of severe 24 hrs lower back pain. As soon as I stop taking it, my lower back pain stops fully in 4-5 days. This I have tried 2 - 3 times and I can confirm it, lower back pain is side effect of Lovax 300 mg. Presently I stopped it since last 7 days and I am feeling depressed and suicidal. I have taken Torvate Chrono 400 mg x 2 as mood stabilizer for 6 years, it worked but caused high serum ammonia in the end and severe lethargy and sleepiness in daytime so stopped it. Lithium gave me side effect of burning sensation in urine along with feverish feeling, plus I have severe diabetes so had to stop it. Can you suggest a mood stabilizer which I should take? Shall intake Torvate Chrono again?

The 3 main mood stabilizers have been tried and found to produce side effects for you. There are others but less effective, either you chose the best amongst the ones causing least side effect or try alternative by consulting a psychiatrist. All the best.

Ox mazetol (oxcarbazepine) can be taken during Pregnancy, yes you can plan a baby but before that consult your doctor he may change your dose of medicine
Anti epileptic drugs have to be taken during pregnancy.

Dear Doctor, Here I would like to give a short-brief of my son's problem of epilepsy in the following words. He got birth in a private clinic here in Delhi in the month of March 13, 2008. The delivery was normal and on the very next day of discharge from the hospital, he got a fits-like behavior and we immediately took him to the same clinic where he got birth and admitted there. As per the Doctor treating him it was said that his sugar got down and he was not needed properly during the night. After 3-4 days treatment, the doctor referred to another hospital i.e. St. Stephens Hospital herein Delhi and got admitted. After a week’s time the child got recovered. After this, about three years there was no problem with the child. However, after the age of 3, we could noticed that when child was walking he was complaining of some difficulty in walking on his right leg and immediately he asks to pick-up and also noticed a slight behavioural activity on his mouth. This is the starting point and we approached Dr. B.K. Gupta (Neurologist herein Delh). As per his presumption it was epilepsy and started treatment for epilepsy by giving the syrup Trioptal. By taking the above medicine continuously there was no problem for about three years. Unfortunately, after third year the child got fits again intermittently and we again approached the same Doctor and he advised to change the dose of the same medicine. But even though the duration of fits got extended but some time it happened intermittently. In the meantime we approached another Dr. (Prof.) Aldrin (Head of Neuro in IBHAS, Delhi). As per him we got the child’s MRI taken and after diagnosis he also advised to continue the same syrup Trioptal. In the meantime the syrup was not available in the market and the doctor advised to take Oxcarbazepine Tab (300 ml in the morning and 400 ml in the evening) plus Frisium 5 mg tab (one tab in the evening). Now for the last one and a half years there is no problem of fits however he has been complaining of tiredness intermittently, mostly after waking up in morning and also when he was about to leave for school and we presume this might be by taking the medicine continuously. Unfortunately, for the last 2-3 months we could notice another problem i.e. His right hand palm gets trembling (jerking) like feeling for a few second mostly every day and by rubbing and/or holding tight it gets normal and when it happens he is not able to move his fingers or hold anything, and also loose strength of his palm and it gets normal within a minute’s time. Earlier it was once in a week but now-a-days it happens almost daily sometime in the afternoon otherwise at school. Last week i.e. On 16/01/2017 we again visited Dr. Aldrin because of this above new problem. After check-up the doctor advised to get EEG report. However, as per the EEG report it was normal and the doctor advised to increase the dose of the existing medicine i.e. Oxcarbazepine 400 ml tab in the morning instead of 300 ml and continue the other medicine as usual. But even though the above medicine has been taking as per the prescription for the last two week the problem still persists. He has also the problem of Adenoid for the last 3-4 years and now-a-days treating by homeopathy medicine. At night when he sleeps he inhales/exhales through mouth and I am presuming that the above problem is due to this reason only. Kindly, for your advice.

You have not mentioned MRI report. It seems that the low sugar at birth might have left a permanent scar in his head and hence your child is having frequent simple partial seizures. Probably needs either adding a new drug or change of drug. Kindly seek advice from your doctor. Best wishes.

Dear, oxetol contains the active ingredient oxcarbazepine, which is an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer. There are many long term side effects and you can read them on cims website. Regarding memory, there are nothing significant. Still you may consult your doctor for further advise. Take care.

Difference between oxcarbazepine (ox mazetol) and carbamazepine (mazetol) are in terms of efficacy, tolerability and fewer side effects. Used in the various medical problems as advised by treating physician.

Im searching a best seizure medicine which has very low side effect and which do not effect to liver, kidney heart and others organs, my neuro doctor has offered me to choose one medicine from "phenytoin, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, eslicarbazepine, sodium valporate, topiramate, levetiracetam, lamotrigine, diavalporex, phenobarbitone, currently i'm taking clobazam 12.5 mg and lacosamide 200 mg per day but nothing improvement. I feels suddenly extreme difficulty till 30 to 50 second, I always remain conscious at that time and can talk with anyone but that difficulty what I feels which is unable to express in words. My mri report show: ring shaped cortical/ subcortical lesion with eccentric dot and blooming on swi and calcification on phage image in the left hippocampal formation with minimal peripheral gliosis/edema. Findings represent calcified granuloma most likely related to neurocysticercosis. Other diagnostic consideration is tuberculosis. 2. Mild increased signal and volume loss of the left hippocampus as compared to right. Finding are suggestive of left mesial temporal sclerosis. Clinical correlation is suggested" while I do eeg test when normal condition always show normal eeg but when 30-50 second extreme difficulty happen during eeg show abnormal ieds: left anterior temporal and there are few sharp wave discharge starting from left anterior temporal region. Now according some above report which medicine is the best for me please suggest. I want to change medicine lacosamide and clobazam. Thank you.

I was so negative that I was suffering from dry eyes and conjunctivitis and have a feeling that I will lost my eyes and optic nerve will get damaged and my hand was injured but when I was in pain I felt like doctor will not be able to cure it they will cut it to save my life but in 20 dec 2020 I got an article about post finasteride syndrome, here my night mare starts I am a prone masturbation I masturbate each day 3 times minimum with no pleasure but unable to stop it even during my depression period, I was worried about my orthodox type masturbation, but here doctor you also need to know about my finasteride journey 2 years ago I took finasteride but I wasn't aware of the side effects but somehow came to know about erectile dysfunction and after that I was aware that when my erection will happen after 4 days I stopped it and after few days I started from 0.5 mg but again side effects occurred stopped it immediately and that erection again become normal, this all happened in march 2019 and I remembered I was fascinated about sex and was fascinated about some girls for sex of my area but after that in starting of june ,i kissed my girlfriend and felt the kiss again I masturbated at home thinking about the kiss and a thought came I will never enjoy the kiss I became worried about her but after two days I again romanced her and felt every bit of it but after coming home again, and because of my love life my study was affected a lot I had two options that whether I have to study or love my gf all the time that day an illogical thought came to my mind that if I will study I will lose the feeling for my gf and that happened and I lost the excitement for her and became anxious about that and searched on internet that how to bring back the excitement or feeling for girlfriend again, I stopped going to college, I thought kissing her will do the job I kissed her but there was no feeling at all I tried so hard to feel the kiss but that feeling wasn't coming so from that I went to a psychiatrist and he diagnosed me with ocd and after 3 months my gf breakup with me ,i thought she might have left me due to my poor ugly face, I again diagnosed with body dysmorphic and suffered from sep 2019 to 2020 I made 1000 of videos of my face in phone and thought that my face bony structure is changed significantly and it is irreversible, I was still depressed and masturbating everyday fantasizing my gf with no pleasure but the real night mare starts when I got to know about post finasteride syndrome and have a strong feelings that my sexual libido is decreased by finasteride and it's irreversible but I remember that 2 years before when I took finasteride, the side effects happened and disappeared after stopping and after side effects gone I used to fantasize a lot about sex had that increased libido and there are 2-4 girls I was fascinated about sex about them but that memories now seem fake to me I know I was fascinated about sex about the girls even after side effects disappeared but still I am worried by just saying to myself that memories are fake that is my self made memory my doctor prescribed me d veniz and oxcarb 150 and 300 after listening this, but I know I am not a patient of post finasteride syndrome bcoz side effects did disappeared after stopping the medicines but still unable to cope with it, now I am searching for proofs that my sexual libido was high after side effects disappeared by searching my browsing history because my ocd started june 2019 and I took finasteride in march 5 2019 for 5 days till 10 march 2019 and due to side effects I stopped because I used to watch porn in mobile and my side effects disappeared there will be no day that I never watched porn and was enjoying that, bcoz I am a bit worried person in all aspects, so if in 2019 march during finasteride side effects if it really lingered then why I didn't complain about this to the psychiatrist in 2019, I know this is a self made problem and also know finasteride is quite safe only 2 percent of people face side effects and side effects also disappears after stopping it so I know the facts but still confused about past memories that are the proofs that my libido didn't affected by the side effects ,bcoz I was enjoying porn that time, please help any psychiatrist should I take d veniz or not bcoz today I masturbated twice in 1 hour but I got erection but masturbated by laying on floor I am afraid that the medicine will affect my erection and I have to wait for erection and take after that.

oxetol (oxcarbazepine) is one of the medication used for bipolar disorder, but we usually avoid during pregnancy. It can be associated with teratogenic effects. It would be better if you take your psychiatrist opinion before you plan to go ahead with pregnancy planning.
