I've been diagnosed with uti after having bad fever (multiple fever cycles a day despite taking acetaminophen) and some vomiting for 3 days even though the typical symptoms (burning, frequent urination, constant need to pee) while urinating subsided (and started after sex) even before the fever started. Urine analysis was positive in bacteria (no specific), nitrites, blood, leucocites and protein. The doctor who I consulted beforehand then prescribed me ciprofloxacin as treatment. By chance I got to speak to another doctor who prescribed me cefalexin. I investigated both and came to a conclusion that ciprofloxacin carries adverse effects which risk I don't feel comfortable taking (especially neuropathy). I don't like to take antibiotics in general, which makes me even more weary about side effects they have. Why one or the other antibiotic and how will the treatment differ? Am I overly paranoid about potential risks? I like to understand why doctors decide for a specific medicine but have not had the luxury of being given any explanation. Hoping that maybe this community gives me some answers. Thank you in advance.

one reason for not healing is tab omnacortil 40 which you are taking, secondly this may be due to nerve insensitive if there is no pain, or may be due to venous origin if venous engorgement is there with pigmentation around, so consult your doctor for can you stop omnacortil, get examined for venous type, by the use compression bandage and leg elevation.

Hi Doc, I had a huge heat boil on my right cheek that developed on May 29th. It was extremely painful. It burst on in the first week of June and the abscess started to come out. On 7th June (after almost all the abscess had come out), I developed a fever that did not go above than 100.4 F. It's been almost a month now, and there has been persistent low grade fever. On 8th June, I was put on antibiotics. The doctors gave me phexin 500 mg for for 7 days, but the fever did not come down. Then, I started to take amclox 500 mg thrice a day for five days along with calpol and multivitamin supplements. After that dosage was over, I was given Azithral for seven days. The fever still hadn't come down. Then I took a blood test that revealed that I have mild urinary tract infection and tested positive for s typhi o 1 in 80 dilution (which I was told by few doctors that it was mild and by few doctors that it wasn't typhoid) . Following this, the doctors gave me glevo and augmentin for seven days yet to no avail. Currently I am on cefozyt CV and cepodem xp 325 mg for five days. The ESR on the blood test revealed that I have 22 mm whereas the normal is between 15-20. I am 20 years old/female. I am totally exhausted from the tablets. Can a infection from a boil stay even for more than a month? Currently the fever ranges up to 99.3 F. I am also having aches and cramps on my feet, legs and elbows and wrists. Please advise. Thank you.

Around apr 20, had some throat discomfort mostly just below my left jaw in particular, with phexin 500 it had subsided again by end june 20, similar mild swelling of the submandibular gland was noticed and my physician referred to an ent. Ent checked up and had ct pns done –findings -small polyp/cyst seen in left maxillary sinus -septum shows minimal deviation to right - bilateral small concha bullosa is seen -osteomeatal units are normal as per ent from above, it was diagnosed to be dns c pansinusitis and advised functional endoscopy sinus surgery. Also said, the post nasal drips are the likely causes of the throat issues and my deviated septum added to the problem. I have sleep apnea and use sleep machine for sleeping for the last ten years or so from sep 20, it has come up again and causing throat discomfort as earlier. Kindly review and suggest medication to overcome the situation in lieu of surgery. If sinus surgery is the main resolution pls let me know how early it need to be done and you views re the findings as a second opinion thanking you in anticipation.

My son 11 years old has bilateral hydro utero nephrosis (moderate dilation of pelivcalceal system and ureter is noted with mild urothelial thickening) and also has cystitis, with bladder wall thickening of 5.6 mm. He spotted blood drops at the end of urination. Bun/creatinine normal. Doctor gave antibiotic and all bacterial and uti symptoms are cleared, took mcug and report is normal. He also has constipation, both usg and ct reported fecal loaded large bowel loops. He is on continuous anti-biotic bactrim at night, suggested to do usg after 4 weeks. He had gross hematuria 2 years ago, that got cleared after 8 days course of sporidex and citralka. Now, my doubts are: 1) why he is getting repeated uti? 2) can anti-biotic alone cure hydro-utero nephrosis? Don't know if hydro nephrosis is due to current cystitis or previous uti 2 years ago. 3) is this treatable or not. Very much worried.

1) most common cause of repeated uti is a bad valve but mcug has ruled that out the next common cause could be residual infections and also ureteric stones and strictures predisposes to urinary tract infection. I would like to see all the reports of your child. To really be able to answer you something concrete. 2) hydroureteronephrosis is dilation of ureter and kidney caused due to a obstruction most common cause of it is renal stones. Other cause include healing scars which block the tube. 3) ...more
