Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query
You have mentioned the drugs and dosage being taken, but there us no mention of blood glucose levels and HbA1c%, so I am unable to know whether glucose is well controlled or not.
Another aspect you are taking 30 mg of Pioglitazone, which is the maximum dose recommended. It is better if that is reduced to 15 mg a day. Please let me know the glucose levels and HbA1c% Then only I can comment. Plus I need to know the diet pattern and extent of exercise,...more

Thanks for the query.
HbA1c% 8.7 is high. At your age it should be maintained < 6.8. Apart from that it is important to know current fasting and PP glucose levels. Another important aspect is your weight and BMI. With a BMI of 31.98 kgs /Sq meter, yu are in grade 1 obesity. This needs to be addressed first. Your ideal weight should be 65 kgs, which means there is an excess of 22 kgs. Weight reduction will help in better control of blood glucose. In this communication we can only give general...more

I have been taking glitaris m7. 5/500 one tablet after dinner for sugar control for more than 10 years. This has been banned again in india. My endocrinologist is of the opinion that I should not stop pioglitazone (the reason, it facilitates utilization of insulin in body cells). Secondly, I am taking it in low intensity (7.5 mg). My questions are the following. 1. Does it have harmful effect? 2. Is the side effect related to quantity of pioglitazone one is taking? Meaning, is to safe to take it in low amount as in my case? 3. Though this tablet is banned, glitaris 7.5 mg is available in market (exclusive pioglitazone). Can I take this with one additional tablet glycomet 500 (metformin)? If yes, 4. If combination tablet glitaris m7. 5/500 is unsafe (because it is banned) then how the same in separate form, glitaris 7.5 + glycomet 500, can be safe?

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query.
As told by your endocrinologist pioglitazone does help insulin action by reducing resistance to its action. The combination has been banned because it is considered as irrational to have certain "fixed dose" combinations. Because it is difficult to make dosage adjustment in asuch a combination. However, using those separately is absolutely fine. Plus if you have been getting good glucose control with those drugs, then please do use separately. At the d...more

What is your weight, bmi and waist circumference? bmi should be 23 kms per sq meter& waist should be below 90 cms. What is activity level? do you walk for over an h every day? if you maintain your weight and waist and exercise level that will help in reduction of sugar. Please remember every food that we eat (carbs) gets converted to glucose. You have to consume prescribed amount food only. Oil intake should be just half kg per month. No deep fried foods.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given and understand the concern you have. Your father is already on multiple drugs for controlling blood glucose, so there is no need for adding any further medications.
Please understand for a diabetic patient strict diet control is part and parcel of his daily life. If he does not follow that then uncontrolled glucose levels can lead to early setting in of severe long term complications affecting eyes (retina), heart, kidneys and ...more

Dear Mr. lybrate-user,
your fasting blood sugar reading and the otherr test reports indicate goo d control of all your problems. I note that your doctor recently added pioz 15 mg may be because hba1c was more than 8. If that is the case, you need to add the drug. The novastat is for high ldl cholesterol and the repace 50 for kidney protection and to keep bp under control. I note that your weight is ok (in fact a little low for your height) pioz will make you gain some weight
