In pt of pcod there is increased insulin resistance ,metformin being a insulin sensitizer drug decreases the insulin resistance, it also helps in reducing wt and in ovulation. Total dose is 1500 mg taken in 2 or 3 divided doses.
Lifestyle changes for wt reduction should also be adopted.

Hi lybrate-user, you have not mentioned your glycemic status with twice daily dose of metformin. Check your tsh level and 25 (oh) vitamin d level. Consult your physician / diabetologist for further management.

Glycomet is milder than istamet 50/500 .As glycomet contains only metformin where as in istamet 50/500 is a combination of sitaglyptin and metformin.

Please don`t increase dose of medicine without consulting. Better you add other medicine tab glimipyride 1 mg 2 times before food. Or you take combination, tab gluformin g 1 two times before food. I like to advice for self measurement of sugar by glucometer, 3 times a day and inform after 7 days.

Hello, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. Glycomet 1gm contains only metformin 1000 mg and the other tablet contains glimiperide 1 mg with 1000 mg of metformin. So the second tablet is much stronger in action and should be able to give a better glucose reduction. I am a bit surprised that with a better combination your glucose level has increased. So I feel there is a need to look at overall treatment including following details: fasting, pp glucose levels, hba1c%, dietary ...more

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Tab Gluconorm SR 500 is containing only Metformin, where as The other tablet has Glimepiride 1 mg plus metformin. So the action can be much stronger. That may lead to lower glucose levels. Plus changing medicine with doctor's advise, is not good. Thanks.

Hello, thanks for the query.
For a lady with preexisting diabetes, pregnancy does produce a lot of challenges. 1) there is a need for achieving a strict blood glucose control with glucose remaining between 90 to 120 mg through out the day. 2) just before conception there is a need to shift to insulin, because apart from metformin most other oral anti-diabetics are not preferred in pregnancy. 3) there is a need to check retina more often just before pregnancy and during the gestation. Because...more
