Mr Iqbal, 100 g rice, apple, orange all this OK, provided your blood sugar levels are in control. You are on Insulin 30/70, 18 units twice a day plus is there any other oral anti diabetes drug ? Ayurvedic drugs could be just a supportive therapy. If diabetes is in control then fasting should be closer to 100 mg and PP should be around 150 to 170 mg and HbA1c% should be <7%. If all these values are there then eating fruits that too 1 fruit a day is fine. Rice can be had, but in lesser quantity...more

To control blood glucose effectively apart from medication (Insulin) patient also has to follow a strict diet control. Avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items and food made from maida. Plus match her intake based on ideal body weight, extent of daily exercise and blood glucose levels. The most important thing for you to learn brushing technique and how to keep oral cavity clean. As you have diabetes you need to be very cautious about infections. Next thing is to get professional cleaning and polishing done.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details mentioned. You have given the glucose level as 170 /250 mg, do you mean to say fasting is 170 mg & pp is 250 mg? Is that so? What is the hba1c%? It is important to know that, because it gives a long term view of glucose control. To give any advise I need to know hba1c%, exact fbg & pp levels, serum creatinine, urea, dietary pattern & extent of daily exercise. One can definitely change from 30/70 insulin to glargine, but dosage n...more

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
Ideally blood glucose should be maintained in the following manner: fasting < 100 mg, PP 160 to 170 mg / 100 ml & HbA1c% < 6.8 (for persons above 60 years <7 may be fine).
Since there is no mention about weight, height, dietary pattern, extent of daily exercise, it is difficult comment. Unless all those details are given, there is no way to understand the situation. Thanks.
