I want to consult for my mother, age-53y. Three weeks ago she feels mild aches right lower back side occasionally. So we went to gp two weeks ago, gp suggested for usg whole abdomen and urine culture. Usg report is normal but urine culture found escherichia coli (100000 cfu/ml of unspun urine). But no burning sensation during urine. Antibiogram of culture report: amikacin – scefotaxime- cefixime- s ciprofloxacin- norfloxacin- ofloxacin- r levofloxacin-i lomefloxacin-imeropenem- moxifloxacin- Inalidixic acid- nitrofurantoin- s gentamycin- spiperac/tazobactam- samplicillin/sulbactam-s (s=sensitive,i=intermediate, r=resistant) gp prescribed - martifur 100 tablet - once for first 3 days, twice for next 12 days. Syp uriliser- 2table spoon 1/2cup water twice but no improvement after two weeks. Again consult with gp, he prescribe - o2 tablet – twice for 5 days martifur 100 – once for 10 days. But no improvement. As per antibiogram e.coli has ofloxacin resistant. But gp prescribed o2 tablet (ofloxacin-200 mg). Does o2 tablet works against these strain bacteria? Martifur 100 tablet - once for first 3 days, twice for next 12 days. Can this antibiotic effective because initially 3 days once a day (may be low dose, may bacterial got resistant for low dose)? Please suggest another medicine which would be better.

I had diarrhea and gas problems yesterday most probably due to food poisoning. Situation yesterday: I started with digene in the morning. No relief. Then in the evening, I took 1 tablet of ranitidine 150 mg and 1 tablet of norflox-tz (norfloxacin 400 mg, tinidazole 600 mg, lactic acid bacillus 120 x 10^6 spores). Before sleeping I took 1 tablet of nutrolin-b plus (40 x 10^6 spores of lactic acid bacillus, pyridoxine hydrochloride 1 mg, nicotinamide 25 mg, cyanocobalamin 7.5 mcg, folic acid 750 mcg). Had a good night's sleep. Situation today: much better than yesterday. No gas. No diarrhea. But did not pass stool the whole day (opposite situation). I took 1 tablet each of norflox-tz and nutrolin-b plus after breakfast and dinner (total 4 tablets). Even lots of lemonade, water, and coffee did not help pass stool. How to cure this constipation? For the next 3 days I plan to: 1) have 1 tablet of ranitidine 150 mg every morning immediately after waking up. 2) 1 tablet each of norflox-tz and nutrolin-b plus after breakfast and dinner. But I am confused if I should replace each nutrolin-b tablet with the following two tablets: 1) darolac (which has multiple species of "good" microbes unlike nutrolin-b which has only lactic acid bacillus. This is to refill the gut with good microbes as the antibiotics have been doing mass destruction. 2) zincovit (multi-mineral and multi-vitamin) also, is it a good idea to have nutrolin-b plus / darolac with the antibiotic or after one hour of taking the antibiotic (or some other such delay in time)?

The way you are describing the discharge and its colour it does not appear to be is coming from inside. Maybe there is an infection outside and norfloxacin also is not a medicine for vaginal infection. It is for something else. It is very important that you consult us immediately otherwise the skin will become s rated and if this is the colour of the infection then it is an infected discharge and yes of course infection will come again and again only treating you is not the solution. Recent studies have shown that the use of fluoroquinolones (Ciprofloxacin and Norfloxacin) during early pregnancy is not associated with an increased risk of any major malformations. There were no clinically significant musculoskeletal dysfunctions in children exposed to fluoroquinolones in utero. However, chances of abortion are increased.
