Remission for 4 years on azathioprine is very good
Before stopping some doctors prefer doing a colonoscopy to confirm remission and then try stopping the medicine
There may be chances of a relapse which may require steroids and azathioprine
If a patient has been on remission only on azathioprine and has not required biologics in the past then requirement of biologics in future is less likely
If one can have remission on azathioprine then no need of bi...more

All medicines have side effects. We need to see whether the benefit is more than the risks. If the risk of having baby's problem (azathioprine can cause inadequate growth in the baby)is higher than risk of SLE, you should not take it. But if the disease remains under control with this medicines, then the benefit of this medicines (reducing the risk of severe disease in the mother and baby) is more than risk to the baby. In that case, you MUST Continue it.
