Dear Lybrate-User,
if the diagnosis is schizophrenia, the medication will be, most probably, life long. The tablets you are taking are not sedating. Your 11-12 hours sleep may be due to no work to do, not taking up the responsibilities, lazing in bed by habit, not finding pleasure in activity, etc. You need to undergo psychosocial rehabilitation without stopping these tablets.

You should notice change after 4 to 6 weeks but full recovery may take months. After recovery you should continue to take medicines till your psychiatrist advises you to stop. Very commonly it is seen that patients stop treatment after remission and subsequently they relapse. These medicines are safe for long term use. Good luck.

Get your serum sodium and potassium level tested. Consult your psychiatrist about possibility of initiating psychotherapy with psychologist. That would help your symptoms and might help to decrease medicine dosage to some extent eventually. Causing relief from the symptoms you have narrated.

You may also consult a clinical psychologist to start the therapeutic process. This will help you enhance your skills in dealing with negative thoughts and feelings. Clinical psychologists will help you to develop better-copi...more

The negative symptoms also need treatment (amisulpride and aripiprazole). Please don't stop these medicines. Discuss with your psychiatrist. She/he may add an antidepr...more

Ziprasidone, as well as amisulpride, are an atypical antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. You have a serious psychosis and hence you need drugs until your psychiatrist says to stop.
