Soltus and Sulpitac are the same medicine manufactured by different companies, the indication for which it is being tken is right but she has to be evaluated fully and then medicine has to be initiated, if you feel it is working you may continue but still to be evaluated and followed up by a psychiatrist.

Schizophrenia and depression-
You have to be on drugs as long as your psychiatrist advise for it.
You should stick to your psychiatrists rescription, dosage and schedule.
Antipsychotics are very specific drugs. You should continue or stop them only on doctors advice.

Hello respected doctors. I have a serious concern regarding my mothers prescription. While ordering medicines online for my mother I had gone through the contents of the medicines prescribed to her by her doctor. The name of the medicine are- 1.soltus 50 2.tetrafol 7.5 mg 3. D venizep 50 mg these medicines are being consumed by my mother since 4-5 years. I had no idea about her treatment as I was a child then. But the real concern is that these are anti depression medicines or medicines for treatment of schizophrenia. Kindly suggest me that can I stop giving these medicines to my mother as it has been a long time she has been consuming these medicines and these have a serious side effect in the future. Please help as I am unable to visit any doctor during these times and I am coming confused as whom go rely upon during such times. Please help and let me know the alternative of these medicines in the form of ayurveda or home remedies? thank you.

Dear lybrate-user,
many medicines in psychiatry are prescribed for different indications. For e.g. Soltus, in different dosages is used for both depression as well as psychotic illnesses and other indications. D venizep I used for depression and several types of anxiety disorders. I would advise against discontinuing any medicine on your own, especially when your mother is maintaining well. I suggest that you have an open discussion with her doctor about your concerns and then take a decisio...more

Dear Sir Thank you for your query.
A lot of people with schizophrenia have to take more than one medicine at a time. The treatment prescribed to a person depends on a lot of factors like the severity of illness and response to medications. More than one medicine can be taken at a time for schizophrenia. However, the medications should be taken as prescribed by your psychiatrist. So please continue the Medication as prescribed by your psychiatrist as he is aware of your history and if you hav...more

Unfortunately some psychiatric disorders are chronic (continuous or long-term) in nature. Just like some physical conditions like diabetes (sugar) or some kind of arthritis (pain due to inflammation of joints) which can't be permanently cured but can be controlled or managed from getting worse and reducing the symptoms like pain, fever restricted mobility in case of arthritis and dizziness, deterioration of functions of other organs like kidneys, heart, eyes etc. In cases of diabetes by means of...more

Dear Aishwarya,
You can stop taking medicines and let some family member know it. Let that member watch you for early warning signs of relapse. Restart the tablets before you become un co operative and consult the doctor.
Discuss with the family whether this is the best time to stop medicines. Relapse may come after many weeks of stopping, not necessarily immediately.
Start dieting and exercise to reduce your weight.
