Aldactone should be started only after dermatolgical consultation in person (bcos this drug has various side effects and contraindications. But yes it is one of the drug for hirsutism and 6 months to 1 year of therapy is required. Laser epilation therapy is better than oral medication for hirsutism but combination therapy is also used. Visit nearest dermatolgist .thanks.

Aldactone (spironolactone) helps to restore the hormone balance and treat female pattern hair loss. Aldactone isn't approved specifically for hair loss treatment, so when doctors use it, it's considered an “off-label” use. ... But it can help the thinning hairs become thicker and fuller.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Both Diane35 & Spironolactone are used in the treatment of PCOD to reduce the symptoms. Prolactin also is reduced because of Spironolactone.
Please mention the prolactin levels, because if those are abnormally high, some additional drug maybe needed. Thanks .

Dear Lybrate user,
aldactone (spironolactone) is a potassium-sparing diuretic (water pill) that prevents your body from absorbing too much salt and keeps your potassium levels from getting too low. Aldactone also treats fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or a kidney disorder called nephrotic syndrome. Aldactone...more

No documented drug interaction between the pill and aldactone. You can take the drug next day if you have missed one. This drug lowers bp and increases urination.

Hirsutism results in excessive amounts of dark, coarse hair on body areas where men typically grow hair — face, chest, and back. The amount of body hair you have is largely determined by your genetic makeup. There's a wide range of normal hair distribution, thickness, and color due to differences in heredity. However, hirsutism is a medical condition that can arise from excess male ho...more

Spiranaloctone is FDA class c drug,it's given during pregnancy if it's benefits outweigh it's risks.
In animal studies it's seen that it causes antiandrogenic and oestrogenic effects in the male fetus .
There are no documented studies of its effects on human fetus .
