You can make your own hair fall-preventing medicine at home by frying some fenugreek (methi) seeds in coconut oil. Strain this mixture and apply it in minimal amounts, rubbed gently into the hair roots. Alternatively, you can boil some henna leaves in mustard oil. After cooling and straining this preparation, add drops of it in your coconut oil container that you are using for regular massaging.

1. Use mild shampoo to wash hair (you can make your own shampoo using reetha and shikakai at home). 2. Stop using conditioners. Use natural conditioners like egg, yougurt and lemon. 3. Massage your scalp with a mix of oils like olive, coconut, sesame, castor oil at night. 4. Apply raw amla juice on hair thrice a week. 5. Rub your scalp with the juice of white onion. 6. Use a paste of bhringraj on hair. 7. You can use some good hair packs like - fenugreek and yogurt, egg and green tea. 8. You can rinse your hair with organic apple cider vinegar after washing your hair to maintain pH balance of your hair. 9. Hair health depends on the amount of protein in your diet. Foods like chicken, eggs, fish, nuts, dry fruits gives you the required nutrients to keep your skin and hair healthy. So consume plenty of them. Eat things rich in vitamin C like amla and oranges.

I am male 24 years old. I live near sea coast, so water available might contain more salts. I am facing dandruff problem. I am having lot of dandruff. Sometimes on top of my eyebrow dandruff appears. Kindly recommend me a possible solution to this. I am cautious about my hair so would prefer natural stuff instead of chemically made. I also have issue of hairfall, but its controlled. I think it is because of water. I can't leave my location since I work here.

The regular usage of the shampoos can’t clear the dandruff completely. They just washed the dandruff after 4-5 days dandruff is coming back. There are medicated shampoos in the market to treat the dandruff. Use the homoepathic shampoo and oil along with homoepathic treatment to treat the dandruff. Massage 2 tablespoons of lemon juice into your scalp and let it sit for a minute. Mix 1 teaspoon of lemon juice into 1 cup of water and rinse your hair with it. Repeat daily until no longer needed. While excess oil can be a root cause of dandruff, homoepathic arnica oil can still be helpful in keeping it under control. All time best home remedy to remove dandruff quickly and effectively with fenugreek seeds. Soak 2 tsp of fenugreek (methi) seeds in water overnight. Grind methi seeds into a fine paste the next morning. Apply this paste on the scalp, leave for half an hour and wash off. You can add the lemon juice or curd to the fenugreek paste also. Do not throw the water in which fenugreek seeds were soaked. Use this water as an after-shower hair tonic or last rinse. Follow the regime once in a week. Aloe Vera is a wonderful plant that is available right at your kitchen garden. You have to pluck a leaf, cut it from the middle and extract the gel from there. Apply Aloe vera gel to your scalp and hair before hair wash. It is very effective in treating dandruff & itchy oily scalp. You can also get a soothing touch over your scalp along with eradication of dandruff. Use 2-4 days old curd to do this. All you need to do is apply this curd on to your scalp and hair. Wash off after 20 minutes.

Botox for Men - What to Expect!!

MD - Skin,VD & Lepxsy
Dermatologist, Hyderabad
Botox for Men - What to Expect!!

Caring for their look is no longer only restricted to women, men care about their looks just as much as women. In fact, it would be more suitable to say that majority of today's population cares about their looks and appearance. In an effort to look younger many men now-a-days are turning to Botox injections in order to get a more youthful appearance. There is no significant difference between Botox effects on men and women.

Here are nine things that men can expect with Botox treatment:

  1. A Ten Minute Procedure: The actually process of getting a Botox injection does not take longer than 10 to 15 minutes. There is no need for anesthesia and it can easily be performed as an outpatient procedure. A Botox injection is relatively pain-free.
  2. Get Back to Work: Botox is a procedure that you can get done even on your lunch break. Since it does not involve anesthesia of any kind, you can get straight back to the office within an hour of having the procedure. However, it is best to avoid strenuous activities and exercising for a week after the procedure.
  3. Quick Results: Botox results are not immediate but can be seen within 3 to 5 days of the injection being given. Optimal results can be noted 2 weeks after the process.
  4. Swelling and Bruising: Mild swelling is observed at the injection site, which resolves in max 1-2 hours, bruising is very rare, but if happens resolves on its own in 2-3 days maximum and can be easily concealed with light make up.
  5. Effects that Last 4 to 6 Months: Botox injections do make you look younger, but its effects do not last forever. The effect of Botox injections usually lasts for 4 to 6 months. After this, you will need to go through the procedure again to maintain the youthful appearance.
  6. Slowed Pace of Aging: Botox can also be used as a preventive measure when it comes to aging. Many men find that Botox can help prevent the formation of wrinkles and soften fine lines.
  7. Headaches: Though Botox injections are also a form of treatment for chronic migraines, one of the side effects of Botox is a mild headache. This should resolve itself within a few hours and is not something to worry about.
  8. A Few Side-Effects: Generally no untoward side effects are noted if done with the right technique, some rare side effects are drooping of eyelids which resolves on its own in 2 months.
  9. Compliments: 'Rested, refreshed, good'; These are some of the words you should get used to hearing when people talk about the way you look. As long as you use Botox in moderation and get the procedure done by an experienced doctor, you should be ready to look fabulous. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

I want to get a fair tone of skin. Or my old colour. I was fair while a child as I grew older I got darker or tanned....
In order to enhance your skin you need to take care of your skin from outside. You may use a cream or moisturizer that contains Alpha Hydroxy Acid's (AHA's) like glycolic acid, lactic acid etc. AHA's exfoliate superficial dead skin cells and renew it with newer younger cells. Continued use of AHA's keeps skin in a state of continued renewal. This renewed skin is healthier, lighter and brighter. You may also opt for a few sessions of chemical peeling, particularly glycolic peel, from nearest approachable dermatologist. Glycolic peel utilizes a higher concentration of glycolic acid as compared to that present in creams/ moisturizers. The concentration that is available in peels is 20%, 35% 50% and 70%. Whereas creams contain just 6%, 8% or 10% of glycolic acid. I also suggest you to use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day. It should have both UVA as well as UV B coverage. Regular use of broad spectrum sunscreen would prevent tanning and also delay skin ageing i.e appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Some sunscreens are also fortified with vitamin C which has skin lightening as well as antiageing properties. Besides topical creams and chemical peeling sessions you may also take a few sessions of microdermabrasion to achieve the desired results. I suggest you to visit a dermatologist in your vicinity for more details and the needful. Regards.

Here Are the Common Causes of Acne

MBBS, MD - Dermatology

Here Are the Common Causes of Acne

Acne is a teenager's biggest worry. However, it can occur at any age. Acne or acne vulgaris occurs when oil, dead skin or bacteria block the pores on your skin. Though it is not dangerous, acne can be embarrassing and can leave scars on your skin. Severe acne can also be quite painful. Pimples in the form of blackheads and whiteheads are the main symptoms of acne. These can usually be seen on the face, back, chest, shoulders and neck of acne patients. Apart from these, painful lumps under the surface of the skin and red raised bumps can also be found on the skin of acne patients.

Acne can be triggered by a number of factors. Here are some of the common triggers for acne:

  1. Stress: The severity of acne can be correlated to the levels of stress a person is facing. While scientists are yet to figure the exact relationship between stress and acne; it is known that the cells that produce sebum or oil also act as stress receptors. Studies suggest that when a person is under stress, these cells produce excessive sebum that clogs pores on the skin leading to pimples.
  2. Hormones: Hormones play an important role in skin health especially when it comes to women. Androgens or the male hormones present in both men and women, trigger acne by over stimulating the oil glands. Women may also see an increase in pimples during menstruation. This is due to the fluctuating levels of progesterone that stimulate the production of sebum.
  3. Genetics: If one or both parents have acne, their children have high chances of suffering from it as well. Genes influence the sensitivity of your skin towards hormones such as androgens and progesterone that trigger acne. They also influence the production of anti inflammatory chemicals in the skin and skin's response to bacteria.
  4. Medication: Acne is one of the side effects to a few types of medication such as corticosteroids and anticonvulsants. However, this is not seen very often. On the other hand, drugs that contain hormones such as androgenic steroids almost always cause an acne breakout.

Treatment for acne depends on the severity of the condition and its persistence. Mild cases can be easily treated with over the counter medication, but if your acne is severe and not affected by these medications, it best to consult a dermatologist.

Trichoepithelioma - Causes + Treatment

MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy, MBBS
Dermatologist, Ahmedabad
Trichoepithelioma - Causes + Treatment

Puberty brings hormonal changes which affect the body in a number of ways and the skin is one of the main affected organs. While acne is the more common issue, there are also other lesser known skin lesions, which can bother teenagers. The less common trichoepithelioma is one such disease.

In this health condition, multiple hair follicle tumors are seen on the face after attainment of puberty. These are benign, but not very common. They form small hair shafts, but do not develop into full fledged hair follicles. While the exact cause of these lesions is not identified, they are related to a syndrome called Brooke-Spielger Syndrome. There is also a genetic component where the CYLD gene is affected, and the proteins required for self-protection of the skin are missing. There is also a theory which states this condition to be an autosomal dominant condition. In such a scenario, multiple lesions are seen, and it is also the most common variant of the disease.

The lesions are small, less than 1 cm, isolated, firm, round, and shiny. Their color can vary from brown, to blue, yellow, or pink. The face is first affected, starting from the cheeks, and then slowly moving to the eyelids, and the nose. Multiple lesions are easier to diagnose, while individual lesions can be confused with basal cell carcinoma. The lesions grow very slowly and when multiple lesions are present, they can cause aesthetic concerns. There could be ulceration and recurrence in these patients. The genetically correlated ones have a higher incidence of aggressive behavior both in terms of severity of the lesions and the rate of recurrence.

Treatment: Though they are benign, aesthetic concerns may mandate treatment. The treatment is usually multipronged and includes the following genetic counseling, drug therapy (mostly topical creams and lotions), and minor invasive procedures.

  1. The best solution is to let them run their natural course, as they usually subside with age, both in terms of numbers and the severity of the lesions.
  2. Dermabrasion or carbon dioxide laser is useful in improving facial appearance too.
  3. In more severe cases, surgical removal may be done, which is partial and does not cover the entire depth of the lesion.
  4. However, in some cases, if there is a concern for malignancy, the lesions are completely excised (excision biopsy) and then sent for biopsy to confirm their benign nature.

Trichoepithelioma is also known by the name hereditary multiple benign cystic epithelioma, which explains the nature of the disease quite well. Other than cosmetic concerns, more so because if affects females, these are harmless in nature. But a detailed discussion with your dermatologist is suggested to confirm the state of the condition.
