My age is 34 years and My blood pressure is 90/130, please suggest it is need of having medicine or it is normal.
Hello, I can understand your concern. High blood pressure is a natural response to increased nutritional needs of human body. Nutritional needs of the body are increased when there is excess stress from physical or chemical or emotional distress. Physical stress results when physical activity is more than the capacity if vital organs. Chemical stress can result due to inflammation or defective metabolism or toxins or incompatible food intake. Emotional distress can result from pressures from family or friends or profession or other illnesses. Whatever may be the cause of stress, body reacts in the same way, that is through activation of sympathetic nervous system. When activated, This sympathetic nervous system increases blood pressure. So, treating blood pressure is like neglecting root cause behind increments in blood pressure. It's like switching on the exhaust fan to get rid of smoke and neglecting fire in the house. If you try to reduce blood pressure with chemical drugs, remember, human body is more intelligent than medicines and increases blood pressure even more. So, you find that patients of hypertension need more and more drugs with passage of time. Ayurveda believes in treating the root causes of disease and for that purpose we need your detail medical history. If you have any queries or questions, you are welcome.

Can Ayurveda Help In Dealing With Eczema?

Can Ayurveda Help In Dealing With Eczema?

Is your skin looking swollen and feeling dry and itchy? If yes- you may be suffering from eczema. Eczema is a skin condition characterized by these symptoms along with redness. When scratched the skin may break and develop a rash. Children are more susceptible to this condition as compared to adults. Eczema is typically a recurrent infection. Treating it with conventional medication helps subdue the symptoms but does not reduce the risk of it recurring. In cases like this, Ayurveda is often the most preferred form of treatment.

  • Ayurveda is a holistic form of medication that does not address only the symptoms that can be seen but addresses the root cause of the infection. It has negligible side effects and can be prescribed to children and adults. According to Ayurveda, eczema is also known as Vicharchika. This is caused by an imbalance in the immune system. Thus, in many cases, it may be accompanied by asthma, allergic hay fever etc. An unhealthy lifestyle with excessive late nights, stress, physical, mental and sexual activities can contribute towards this condition. In addition, consuming high amounts of alcohol, coffee, spicy or sour foods and stale foods can be responsible for eczema. All of these factors aggravate the pitta dosha and lead to the collection of ama or toxins under the skin.
  • Thus, to treat eczema, it is essential to pacify the pitta dosha. The first step towards this is to have a healthy diet and lifestyle. Avoid oily and spicy food as well as tea, coffee, aerated drinks, and alcohol. Processed and preserved foods should also be avoided. In addition, try eating your meals on time and avoid late nights. Wear loose, cotton clothes that allow your skin to breathe. When bathing use mild, herbal soaps and a soft towel. Yoga asanas such as Bhujangasan and Pranayam can also help boost your immunity and reduce the ama in your body. This can also help reduce stress.
  • In addition, there are certain ayurvedic home remedies that could be beneficial. Neem leaves are known for their antiseptic properties. Boil 20-30 leaves in 4-5 cups of water and wash the affected area with the cooled decoction. You could also apply a warm paste of 1 teaspoon licorice root powder and sesame oil on the affected part of your skin. This may be removed after 3-4 hours. Above all, avoid scratching the area and keep the skin well moisturized.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Sir my father is alcoholic and last two days he is behaving like a mental patient. I am quite nervous.

Sir my father is alcoholic and last two days he is behaving like a mental patient. I am quite nervous.
Now it is difficult to give up all by himself because he has become addicted to alcohol and has a lot to do. Under such circumstances it is best that you admit him into a de-addiction center and let him stay there for at least 6 months and after that attend counseling with a professional. There are medicines that help with the drinking just to ease the initial craving and to act as an antabuse i.e. He will have a serious reaction, if he consumes even a small quantity of alcohol or alcohol based substances. It has to be carefully monitored to see that he not only consumes the medication but is also avoiding alcohol. Ultimately, it is his will power and the support that he receives from the medical fraternity and his close and dear ones. He must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course take a look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ‘cross addictions’ i.e. Another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide him on several measures and precautions he will need to take to stay with his resolve. Even after the rehabilitation he must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. The family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. He cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to his drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. The children will also have to attend meetings to work out their issues because of the father’s habit. In fact, they are all suffering from the Adult Children Of Alcoholics Syndrome (ACOAs), which in effect means that they are genetically predisposed to alcoholism or can have cross addiction problems and that they will have similar traits of the abusing alcoholic but in a milder form. There are special support groups for them all over the world. Should they touch or indulge in alcohol or any addictive substances or behaviors, they could also become full-fledged addicts themselves. Make a serious plan with your wife and the children and whoever else’s support he can get and act on it fast.

Constipation & Gastric Problem - Which Yoga Asanas Can Help?

Constipation & Gastric Problem - Which Yoga Asanas Can Help?

Lifestyle changes have taken a heavy toll on the entire digestive system. There is less fiber, more processed foods, less water and more aerated drinks, all playing havoc with the digestive process. This has led to abnormal bowel movements, no regular cleansing of the bowels, and various other gastric problems.

Ayurveda believes that a healthy body is the result of the balance between the three elements – vaata, pitta, and kapha. Increase or decrease in any of these produces specific symptoms or disease conditions. As a remedy, therefore, the aim should be to balance out these three elements, so that overall health is restored.

Constipation is caused by:

  • Reduced fiber
  • Reduced roughage
  • Reduced water intake
  • Increased processed/refined foods
  • Reduced physical activity
  • Increased refined sugar consumption

Symptoms of constipation:

Constipation can be acute or chronic. While acute may be associated with some sudden food changes, many people may be chronically constipated due to their lifestyle. These people will have the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty passing stools
  • Bloated, excessive gassy feeling
  • Nausea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lousy and lethargic feeling
  • Weight loss
  • Rectal bleeding if the constipation is ongoing for a long time
  • Difficulty in digestion

Some complications of constipation include hemorrhoids, fecal impaction, fecal incontinence, anal fissure and rectal bleeding. Ayurveda suggests yoga, natural remedies and food changes to treat constipation and gastric problems.

Yoga asanas:

  • Trikonasana: This helps in the easy passage of stool by working on the lower part of the digestive tract
  • Bhujanagasana: It helps remove the accumulated gas and helps in passing stools
  • Pavan muktasana: Translated into “asana which helps in the release of gas,” this is very useful in reducing flatulence and also helps to reduce abdominal fat.
  • Naukasana: This pose where the body comes into a boat shape helps in activating the intestinal juices and relieves gastric problems.

Food changes:

  • Triphala churna is a great bowel cleanser which helps in bowel movement too
  • Aloe vera juice clears the stomach
  • Castor oil is highly recommended for digestive issues and constipation
  • Bel fruit is believed to remove waste from the body
  • The leaves and roots of Nisoth (Ipomoea) have great laxative properties.
  • Isabgole (Plantago) not only cures constipation but also reduces cholesterol and helps in regulating bowel movement.
  • Avoid bakery items, red meat, processed foods, dairy products, and oily foods so that constipation can be rectified
  • Increase consumption of green leafy vegetables, make sure at least 50% of the meal is made up of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Ensure each meal contains as much whole grains and cereals as possible, not refined flour.

Eating Disorders - Are You Suffering From Any One Of Them?

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS

Eating Disorders - Are You Suffering From Any One Of Them?

Eating disorders can be defined as conditions that influence your eating behaviour significantly and which may give rise to serious health issues. Eating disorders are associated with behaviours like compulsively counting calories, puking after meals, living on a rigid diet etc. which often leads to a feeling of self-loathing and obsessive thoughts about food and weight.

Here are the three most common eating disorders and the symptoms by which they can be identified.

1. Anorexia nervosa - This disorder is considered to be a mortally dangerous condition in which the body weight reduces drastically. An individual is terrified about gaining weight and can take extreme steps to maintain their weight and shape, often leading to starvation, vomiting and many other health problems.

Common symptoms include:

  1. Reducing the amount of food to be consumed to cut down the calories
  2. Exercising beyond capacity to burn calories
  3. Recurrently monitoring your shape, weight and appearance
  4. Skipping meals
  5. Avoiding social gatherings where you will be offered food
  6. Irregular menstrual cycles in women
  7. Erectile dysfunction in men

2. Bulimia nervosa - Mostly observed among people in their mid-teens, Bulimia nervosa is a serious type of eating disorder associated with episodes of bingeing and purging with the individual being unable to regulate their eating habits. Moreover, the person suffering from this disease often feels guilty and horror-struck about weight gain and forces himself/herself to vomit.

Normally, people suffering from this condition exhibit the following habits:

  1. Binge eating
  2. Use of laxatives or throw up forcibly to get rid of calories
  3. Feeling exhausted and guilty
  4. Experiencing irregularity in their menstrual cycles
  5. The inability to maintain normal weight, in spite of trying to eliminate calories

3. Binge-eating disorder - This disorder is characterised by overeating, eating even when you don't feel hungry and continuing to eat even after feeling full. People suffering from this disorder cultivate a feeling of guilt inside them for overeating but do not try to nullify its effect by vomiting or exercising intensely. Some of the most prominent symptoms of this disorder include:

  1. Eating alone to hide the embarrassment caused due to overeating
  2. Eating quicker than normal people
  3. Being overweight
  4. Binge eating at minimum one instance every week

Attachment Disorder - What Causes It?

MBBS
Psychiatrist, Ranchi
Attachment Disorder - What Causes It?

While most children share a strong bond with their parents, especially the mother, some infants are unable to establish lasting relationships with their parents or caregivers. This is known as attachment disorder. It is a rare yet serious condition as it affects the child’s relationships at a later stage and also triggers delinquent behavior. Children, who have been abandoned, orphaned or are victims of abuse are the most vulnerable to this condition.

What causes attachment disorder?
The exact cause for attachment disorder is not yet understood. However, researchers have put together a number of viable hypotheses for this. One such hypothesis suggests that when needs of a child are ignored or when he begins to feel unwanted, the child begins to expect hostility, negativity and rejection. This is a learnt response and the child begins to feel that his needs are unwanted. With time, these responses make the child untrusting and he withdraws into himself to avoid social contact. This affects the development in the brain and causes attachment problems that affect the child’s personality and future relationships.

Risks associated with it
Some children are at a higher risk of attachment disorder than others. This includes

  1. Children living in orphanages or other such institutes
  2. Children whose caregivers are changed frequently
  3. Children who have had prolonged hospitalization
  4. Neglected children
  5. Children who have suffered from physical, sexual or verbal abuse
  6. Children living in extreme poverty
  7. Children born to parents with mental conditions or anger management problems
  8. Children born to a mother suffering from post partum depression

Symptoms
There are two types of attachment disorders; inhibited and disinhibited.

  1. Inhibited attachment disorder: Children suffering from inhibited attachment disorder are likely to be:
    • Detached
    • Withdrawn
    • Unresponsive to comforting ie. they shun all types of relationships and generally do not get along with their peers or caregivers.
  2. Disinhibited attachment disorder: On the other hand, children suffering from disinhibited attachment are likely to:
    • Seek attention
    • Display inappropriate behavior
    • Frequently break social boundaries
    • Be inappropriately familial and attached to selective figures.

Additionally, children suffering from either type of attachment disorder are manipulative, destructive, moody and lack compassion and remorse.
Effects of attachment disorder
If not managed properly in its early stages, this disorder can continue into adulthood. This leads to:

  1. Relationship problems with peers, friends and family members
  2. Low self esteem
  3. Depression
  4. Anger management
  5. Academic problems
  6. Unemployment
  7. They are also at a high risk for drug abuse and alcohol addiction.

I am suffering 4 years for acne problem that's make my face ugly plss sir give advise.
Hi, Acne is a chronic skin condition and is very common in persons ageing 15-25 years. The condition can be mild, moderate or severe depending on types of bumps you have on your face. The moderate and severe types require long term treatment with antibiotics and vitamin A derivatives. However you can start using face wash with salicylic acid, start applying anti acne creams on the face. You should use the sun screen very regularly so that you do not get any scars or pigmentation. You can increase your water intake; avoid touching your face; eat fresh fruits; avoid oils and sugars.

You may be suffering from androgenic alopecia which is also called as pattern baldness. The hairs start reducing in density at the crown (top) and also the hairline starts receeding from the front. This is usually progressive throughout life unless treated. It is usually accompanied by severe dandruff which we call seborrhoea. The FDA approved treatment for this condition is the best. No oil or cream will magically work because the hairs are getting miniaturised and eventually disappearing due to the hormonal effects of DHT on the hair roots. Please call me or contact me with photos using online consult option for proper examination and treatment. Do not start treatment without consulting. I can give guidance and then you can continue treatment on your own.

Hi, Since your history suggests you have hyperandrogenism (hence spironolactone), the acne treatment can take long but is possible. You can best consult a dermatologist and an endocrinologist for the long term management. You can take oral Vitamin A derivatives only on prescription combined with peels for acne which enhance the results many folds. Also peels will take care of scarring and pigmentation.

I am having issue in my neck while eating and even drinking water its paining.
I have seen in mirror there is rashes ...
This is cervical pain (neck pain) and that's the reason the pain radiates until the shoulder blades. If you keep ice that would help and along side you can do hot water fermentation. You shall use cervical collar which would help you to reduce the radiating pain ie. Due to the nerve compression. This is due to the improper posture as while sitting in front of the computer and it leads to neck pain and thereby it leads to shoulder pain.

Hi. • Women with polycystic ovaries start having menstrual periods at a normal age. After a year or two of regular menstruation, the periods become quite irregular and infrequent.  • Irregular menstrual periods, long cycles – periods may occur once in 2- 3 months.  • The flow is scanty or very heavy  • excessive hair on the upper lip, chin, chest and lower abdomen  • Severe acne before period  • Tenderness and or pain in the breasts.• Obesity • Some women may have difficulty conceiving, and some cases may lead to infertility. Confirmed diagnosis is through an ultrasound scan and blood tests to check hormone levels Homeopathic treatment- Medication is given to regulate the cycles. The medication does not contain hormones or steroids. Within 2-5 months of beginning medication, the cycles start to be regular. The periods are tracked and the treatment is tapered down as they get regular. The other effects, like acne, cysts in the breasts, and hormonal imbalance improve simultaneously.  you can consult me online for homoeopathic treatment without side effects.
