I have been able to drink alcohol from last 5 years suddenly I get facial flushing and rapid heartbeat after drinking. Is this is alcohol intolerance or asian flush? And please don't tell me to avoid alcohol .Please tell.

General Physician, Nashik
I have been able to drink alcohol from last 5 years suddenly I get facial flushing and rapid heartbeat after drinking...
Bright red skin after drinking, caused by dilated capillaries, is almost certainly an example of the alcohol flush reaction, related to the incomplete metabolism of alcohol.

I am 15 years old and I am studying 11th standard, till my 10th standard I was studying in a cbse school, but now I have shifted to state board, in my new school all our studying well, the school where I studied before I used to get first mark, but now in my 11th standard when I compete with them, I am always loosing the battle, whenever I lose, I feel that I am cheating them, nowadays I am getting 15 th rank, due to these reasons I am getting mentally weak and I have also started to loose my confidence and also to think negatively. What are the ways by which I can improve my memory power to win in my competition.

Dear , you know who you are and what is your capacity and ability. You know the more you try and work hard, the more you will be able score high marks. Please stop apprehension. Never relate your performance with change in school. There are no relations. There is only one factor. You are not getting good marks because you are not preparing well or you are anxious about the exams. You may see a psychologist for counseling. Alternatively you may opt for a motivation therapy. Take care.

What is Parkinson's Disease?

What is Parkinson's Disease?

Firstly let me brief you how brain works and what it may result in if any of its area is insulted from any cause.
Brain is a fundamental part of your body that plays a major role in directing your limbs movement, and various other activities like speech, sleep, memory etc. Under action of various chemicals like dopamine, serotonin etc. Under certain circumstances, genetic and environmental factors, dopamine-producing cells in the brain starts degenerating and as a result dopamine’s secretion is affected that results in abnormal behavior like involuntary shaking of hands (tremor), stiffness, slowness or difficulty of movement, small crowded handwriting, poor balance, postural disturbance, thinking process or behavioral problems etc.

Who gets pd?

Age is the guaranteed factor for the development and progression of pd. It typically occurs in individual over the age of 60; however, it may start earlier. Men are more vulnerable to the disease than women. Individual with family history of disease are at greater risk. Other risk factors may be head injury, exposure to environmental toxins such as pesticides etc.

What are causes of pd?

Though exact cause of parkinson’s disease is unknown, a chemical called dopamine, a messenger to produce controlled movements, is considered to be the offender. When the amount of dopamine is low, signals becomes ineffective and movement becomes impaired. The condition worsens gradually.
Scientists speculate that dopamine failure is may be due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

I was smoking more than 3 years but I was scared and stopped smoking for couple of days. Daily morning during wake up I feel like breathless it is because I left smoking suddenly or some other problem?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
The breathlessness is just a reaction and the outcome of some wild imagination. You have done very well to quit smoking and it is good that you did not have any symptoms but quit because you did not like it. It only means that you are proactive. Just keep up with the decision and if you find it very difficult meet with a counselor for a few sessions and that will help maintain your resolve.

Hello, I am 28 years old, I wish to ask that I consume alcohol daily, don't know exactly the period, may be from last 5 years. The amount of alcohol that I consume these days is more than 200 ml which is more than a quarter (180 ml) some times it exceeds to 300-400 ml too. Please tell me the detailed effects of it. And also how long a person can live with this alcoholic lifestyle

It does not matter when you feel like drinking, as long as you need your drink. This could lead to increased tolerance levels so that over time you will need to drink more to get the same or greater effect. You need to identify why you need to drink, and go back into your childhood to find out other influences on your personality that makes you prone to addiction. Meet with an addiction counselor and work with them to sort out this drive. Your already display the classic tendency to first obsess about it and then compulsively feel driven to meet that need. The simplest thing to do is to do some other interesting activity during the evening times. Meet your oral need with some other non-intoxicating drink like soups, juices, and sodas with lime, etc. If you think that you will find it very difficult, then admit yourself to a hospital and go for de-addiction: which normally lasts for about two weeks. Then follow that up with addiction counseling from a professional for at least three years to completely get rid of the habit. If this is also not enough, then admit yourself into a de-addiction center and stay there for at least 6 months and after that attend counseling with a professional. There are medicines that help with the drinking just to ease the initial craving. Ultimately, it is your will power and the support that you receive from the medical fraternity and your close and dear ones. You must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ‘cross addictions’ i. E. Another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide you on several measures and precautions you will need to take to stay with your resolve. Even after the rehabilitation you must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. Your family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. You cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to your drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. Make a serious plan with the family and whoever else’s support you can get and act on it fast. As a combination these two therapies (counseling and rehabilitation) will aid in dealing with the addiction. It will however take a long time to completely come off of the enslavement.

It is unfortunate that all this has happened. But, try to take it as an accident. So many people loose limbs, or are lifelong incapacitated, but you are blessed- the accident has left you one piece. You can go on in the hope for better future options. Please do not run after shadows. You will never be able to hold them. So, focus on all your positives. What all you have. Let me help- 1. You are very fortunate that this truth was told to you on first night itself- can you ever imagine, sharing your life with someone you thought loved you just as much as you did- but was actually not interested! 2. You could have been fooled but the lady had the guts to share her innermost thoughts with you right away.- no cheating at a personal level 3.i recommend focusing on your career- devote all your time to becoming some thing- someone that will make your loved ones proud! at present, they too are very hurt for you. 4. Try to bring a smile on someone's face, each day, see how you will be showered with happiness. In short, begin earning blessings, all the rest will automatically follow! you practice all that is taught daily on astha channel 5.00 to 7.30 am. Very very effective- esp anulom-vilom and bramri and udgit. You will get miraculous results for free and without adverse effects of allopathic medicines and will gain good physical and mental health, increase in your stamina, good concentration, improved memory, etc. It is excellent to drive depression, negative thinking out of your system. Not necessary, you have to be present in front of your tv at 5 am. Begin by switching on your tv just whatever time you get up and start practicing as being taught. Gradually when you regulate your sleeping time, you will be able to get up next morning at 5 and will be able to do complete workout. The time you spend here will actually be an investment that will remove tension, stress, etc. Leading to increased positivity. Good luck!
